Radar detector questions

I'm deciding between the Uniden r3 and r7. I would prefer to spend less, but arrows seem like a nice feature to have. Also, I want to get the factory refurbished ones from Uniden's website and would like to know if that's a good idea. Also, for those who have been caught speeding with a radar detector, are cops less likely to go easy on you if you have one?

Edit: for those wondering I ordered a recertified r7.

I have been harassed for having one once in Wyoming. The office told me that having one showed intent, I replied that it is a tool and I have a hammer, but I didn't intend on building a house. Of course that was after they wrote me up 6 over. My preference would be to get a built-in store or install it in a discreet spot that isn't so obvious.

How long have you been using one? I wonder if that is a one off instance or the sentiment of many cops.

If you can tint your windows then they won't see you discreetly take the detector down if they pull you over, I did that a couple times years ago and never got called out
