Is there an issue with picture upload? I couldn't make a picture post last week, and tonight it's not working again. I only get a generic "failed to upload" error. Texts posts are working fine.
Hey, thanks for bringing this up. It has been breaking intermittently but comes back when I restart the service. I'm planning to upgrade our picture service this weekend which should hopefully resolve this (we're on a pretty old version!).

Frontend updates are easy, I went ahead and updated alexandrite. I might automate this at some point, but kind of like to be intentional about frontend versioning.
For backend stuff I'm much more careful and intentional since it's actually a little bit hard to run infrastructure that handles millions of requests globally on essentially a shoestring budget (but with strict requirements on backups etc).
Well, the budget is just kind of a challenge for me on how cheaply I can run a globally scaled instance. Some interesting engineering involved

If you're doing upgrades this weekend, do you think you could do Alexandrite as well? I've noticed that that's also a few releases behind.

Yeah @coles mentioned over on Matrix they're aware of an issue with it and are looking into it.
Personally, I still just use catbox.moe for sharing images on here partially out of the worry of the hosting of memes going south :p
I'm glad I saw this because it may explain why I couldn't upload an avatar. I'm satisfied knowing that it's probably not something I'm doing.
