Which is also why I never understood the “you don’t fully die / your soul ceases to exist, when the last person forgets about you”. What happens when an archeologist digs up information on you thousands of years later? Does your soul just pop back into existence in the afterlife?

I'm pretty sure the adage never meant to imply anything about an afterlife. It's not about souls "ceasing to exist", it's about the lingering effects of our life beyond our death. I always read it as intended to comfort those facing the finality of death, or dealing with the death of someone else.

Yes. Any nonsense that people say to comfort themselves in the face of their mortality is automatically true!

I am, sadly, going to die. But the circumstances under which I have declared I will die have not even begun to manifest. Things like being on Mars and somehow being allowed to make an epic dirtbike jump off of Olympus Mons.

I mean, with a custom built electric bike and some good engineering, maybe a glider assist, you could have quite a bit of hang time. I just haven’t gotten around to it

i for one am betting on either humans or some other species in the far far future deciding to simulate the history of the universe and bringing back to life our simulated consciousnesses

so for the record: i consent, so long as i get a slightly larger weiner.
