FIA investigating yet another incident after the race... Nothing worse than not knowing the results of a race when the race ends, if you're gonna give him a penno then just do it 😤

14

yeah I don't get it. To me that should have been a max giving back the pos penalty. seems odd to not clearing out on the spot.

They want to give the drivers a chance to talk to the stewards themselves

4

I hear that a lot, and I know I don't know what goes on behind closed doors in that office... But they didn't do the same for Leclerc with the George incident 🤷‍♂️

It's even funnier the twentieth time! Lap One Lando is really something else.

4

Slow burn race, thrilling end, and ENORMOUS props to McLaren for being the only team on the grid with the gumption and integrity to let their drivers scrap. Thank god for McLaren!

Really wonder what the issue he's referring to could be.

He is forced to manage fuel. Either they put too little fuel in (to counterbalance some other problem?) or the car is "eating" too much fuel.

6
Coelacanthreply

Ah, underfueling without consulting him would do it. Sounds like that's what happened.

EDIT: "chassis issue" apparently?

5

why did not you Tbone him... haha good one Russell. I love the cool down room chat.

That lock up cost piastri. Rare mistake from him. He should taken the normal line like he did on the last lap on lap 69 to try a setup a overtake on the last lap. Taking the regular racing line on the last lap, he was closer to Lando throughout the lap

8

At the same time, that mistake showed Piastri's greatness in not crashing into Norris there. Could have easily gone bad for both of them.

I don't know, maybe he should have setup for the attempt on lap 70 instead of 69, but being closer around the lap doesn't mean much around here where turn one is the only real overtaking spot. I understand why he went for it.

3

If he entered the main straight around 6 tenths behind, he can gain enough through drs and slipstream to get into a proper divebomb range. On the other hand what actually happened was after the lockup he was slightly further behind and entered the main straight on lap 70 seven tenths behind and too far back to get in place for divebomb.

Edit - I also get why he did it but it was a mistake nonetheless. Shows that as good as he has been, he is not perfect. We have a cracker of a championship battle on our hands

Who the hell is working with loud equipment during the anthem? 😂

8

I assume the ambient sound microphone was too close to a mechanic

So the one-stop pays off on a track where you struggle to overtake? Who could have guessed?

It is not that simple. Usually tyre deg is so high that a single stop race is not possible. The temps were unusually low today and that meant deg was less and a one stop turned out to be the better strategy.

In the current era cars and tires it just often works out to be the case.

1
Sentaureply
discuss.tchncs.de

Not really. In all of 2022, 2023 and 2024 the two stop was way faster than the one stop.

1
Coelacanthreply
feddit.nu

I have to go back and look at the statistics but we've had a lot of one-stoppers the last two to three years. The two-stopper is almost always faster on paper but not always the best strategy, especially with all the dirty air.

I want to say it was 2023 that the one-stop trend started?

1

I am talking about hungary specifically. One stop is more popular in most tracks but hungaroring always has been two stops.

2

Ah my bad! Yeah, over the last couple of years we have seen more and more tracks that were traditionally a two-stopper end up with the one-stop being better.

1

Solid race by Russel to get the P3. Kudos by Mclaren to have different pit strategy for their driver and letting them fight the p1/p2. Ferrari with Leclerc there is something weird with all the frustration in the race. Alonso still got it with a P5.

I would love it, but it would need some strategy fuck up from Ferrari and Mercedes I think. He's been driving to secure P5 and I think that's smart, pretty much all there is on the table for him today.

Had me on the edge of my seat for those last few laps.

Ouch imagine getting gravel thrown against your hands at this speed

5

They just showed the replay of it. Yikes that looked painful.

Very cryptic messages from Leclerc.. what do we think, is he talking about some secret setting Ferrari has activated on the car that Leclerc doesn't like?

4
Coelacanthreply
feddit.nu

I was thinking it's just the pit onto hards was taken without consulting him.

2
Microwreply
piefed.zip

Possible, I'm thinking "I can feel what we talked about" would be a pretty weird phrasing if he is talking about the pitting strategy though

3
Coelacanthreply
feddit.nu

I do agree, but the only thing they can change under Parc Ferme is front wing angle. Can that have this much impact? I wouldn't say so but maybe?

1

I'll guess they put less fuel into the car than usual and Leclerc only noticed it halfway through the race

2

Got pretty damn close on that penultimate lap!

3

McLarens crashing would be a banger since it would mean a podium return for Padre!

I feel for Leclerc. All that effort in the first half went to waste.

4

that must fuck his mindset that you got your energy and mindset on your team fuckup

starting already. Piastri asking his hard tire to go to the end like last week

2

Lando needs to work on his start. He's like a football player who cannot do penalties.

Wow Ferrari with a fantastic 2.0s stop for Leclerc.

4

What a takeover by Piastri on Leclerc. Very solid. Lap 50, that's really key now.
