I don’t know how to comment when I see this. I want to talk about how this works, but most people know how this works. So I don’t know why its a thing. Its funny though.

This particular version is more about the characters depicted (Denji and Power from Chainsaw Man), who are famous for being endearingly stupid.

The more earnest versions you tend to see on TikTok are mostly posted by, or at least targeted at, actual kids who don't yet understand how vision works. Nobody on Lemmy is under the age of 30.

Although I might feel 30 sometimes, I'll have you know I'm a ripe 28 & ¾

Wow, we already have enough for an average lemmy community.

I'm 24, I can't believe you'd accuse me of such a thing.

You're over 30 in spirit. Welcome to the club, here's some ibuprofen.

I would like to hear an actual explanation. I don’t know shit about light physics but my attempt to explain it is that the trajectory of the light is such that it reflects off of the egg into your eyes and that it is this trajectory that is reflected in the mirror.

12

My wife was having a brain fart once and knew there was a logical reason but couldn't figure it out atm. So I drew a diagram top down geometry class style. Set her straight just like that. It's just the light bouncing at an angle so that you can see what is on the front of the paper.

Thank you so much for this. I really hate giving that website views. Nobody should be using Twitter in 2023.

I would want to see that but I don't want to give twitter my data

Fuck elon and fuck spez

That 100kb limit really gets to some of these memes

There was some stupid trend of tiktok of people being confused by it

I see this as many people are curious of why this happens which leads to the eagerness to learn about optics, and I wouldn't call that stupid.

This is exactly the type of experiment that engages students and ingrains the phenomenon to their memory.

39

It wasn't an experiment. The creators just feign stupidity to generate engagement. I wouldn't mind if they used it to teach how optics or light work .

Beware of adding a double slit to the paper and aiming the laser between the slits, weird things might happen.

I thought this whole "object behind paper against a mirror" thing was just a meme at first because the result is very intuitive and not at all shocking... But then I guess people genuinely didn't get it? People really can be so stupid.

They're from an anime, Chainsaw Man. Haven't watched idk why they have sharp teeth, but my best guess is that it's an anime where they use their OP chainsaw teeth to make a killing in the lumber industry, that's definitely what it's about.

34

They have sharp teeth to show they are demons, I thought. The main dude doesn't have sharp.teeth until he is made into a demon when his little chainsaw dog replaced his heart.

Others have pointed out there is inconsistencies with this, though. I just figured they were oversights in production and the sharp teeth are still intended to represent when the character is demonic.

4

Thank your for posting this instead of just being condescending about it being stupid question like most of the people on this thread

5

She's the best. Chainsaw Man is great for many reasons, but the powerful women with agency is one of the best. Especially for a shonen manga.

7

That's a cool trick. I didn't know about it, but it also didn't surprise me. I did test it to confirm first, though.
