Work week ended on a slightly depressing note but it's good to see you guys here.

This is one of those weird days where I feel extremely good about myself and life and things but part of that involves cheerfully imagining work doesn't exist at all. I stare at my inbox and to do list and it might as well be hieroglyphics.

Been feeling like I have a massive constant headache lately, it's a semi regular thing. Went to the pharmacist to renew my birth control and get some aspirin for my headaches. The pharmacist actually ran back up to me whilst I was paying to suggest that maybe I'm having a bad reaction to the birth control, it's a potential side effect. I'm so grateful to her quick thinking. Heading back to my GP next week.

Thanks for the supportive comments everyone. 🥹 I actually gave the FREE Nurse -On-Call service a ring as well, just because I started getting a bit worried after reading some other potential symptoms I might be having. Regardless the nurse was so thorough and amazing, and I didn't have to leave my bed. It's a free service and saves a trip to the doc (I'll still go to change my birth control).

But anyway, +1 for free Nurse on Call.

The brand of bc I started on gave me the worst headaches around the 'sugar pill' week every single time - just knocked me out for several days every month worse than my normal period symptoms ever did. I switched to the generic version of the same meds and it has mostly gone away now. So it's is very likely! Good on the pharmacist for suggesting it!

3
eye82muchreply
aussie.zone

Oh noooo, yeah it could be the bc then 😬 Definitely see if you can get a change up and see if that helps.

Also, I don't know why the generic $7 version of mine from Chemist Warehouse doesn't generally give me headaches but the $21 brand name version from the normal pharmacy fucks me up but that could be something to try if you still have refills left and don't want to go to the GP for a new prescription.

I love seeing a main character with incorrect layers interact with a side character or some extras who are properly layered. Also love it when a main character who is poor is wearing fabrics well above her status, like Miss Poor would absolutely not be able to afford any of that outfit, not even the shift.

Gah. Apparently my offer to the house was the best and they have indicated they will accept it but there is a hiccup on a house they put an offer on and waiting on it to be sorted before anything official. I'm not sure what the hiccup is or how it affects their plans if it falls through but still more waiting and hope.

9
aussie.zone

Still more waiting and hope for them for an even better offer to come through. Sounds to me like there's a mismatch between your offer and theirs on their new place ....

3
aussie.zone

It could be. It definitely wouldn't surprise me. Though as I understand it (because I know which house they are wanting) is they put in their offer before I made mine.

2

I really really hate REA games with offers and counter offers. I know the thrill of the bargain plus amount of commission is a major motivator for them, but it's really really hard on us normal people. I never did see what people saw in auctions, but at least the pain is over quickly I guess.

Yeah, likely they need your money to buy the new place, but they're waiting for the other vendor. Hiccups can be a real pain in the esophigus.

I'm feeling nostalgic. How good was it being a kid (if you are my age) and waiting for new episodes of the Simpsons, or even daily episodes on Channel 10 at 6 just after neighbours (and my dad yelling to turn the tv down because he hated the neighbours theme song)

What makes you feel nostalgic?

9

I remember I used to watch the Simpsons in the morning before playing footy. I'd be on the floor with the blanket over me and the ducted heating which created an amazing oven until it suddenly went cold for some reason.

2
aussie.zone

I remember back in the very early 90s when Channel 9 would air Michael Jackson or Madonna's video clip for their latest song. It would go for a half an hour with a Molly Meldrum interview. The buzz at school that day and the day after was electric. Kid's going "It was so good that I taped it". Now I was not a fan of either but I knew I had to watch it.

5

I remember that specifically when Black or White came out. The face morphing blew my 13 year old mind.

5

Halley's Comet!...I went to someone's farm party outside of Geelong to see that. Got handed some binoculars to see it, but I didn't know I had to stabilise them so all the stars were moving...

4

hot sunny January days and the smell of the fields and the trees, iow, nature

5
aussie.zone

Something you'd relate to with your recent house hunting: when you check out a listing and the place hasn't been substantially updated in 30 or 40 years. The faded but well-kept carpet, the amber glass and three lamp light fittings, undercover areas with green corrugated fibreglass, the kitchen table, the vinyl covered kitchen chairs with their chrome legs, daphne and gardenia near the meterbox and roses along the driveway, the coir mat at the front door, kids bikes on the front lawn and a podium tennis pole embedded in the back..

5
aussie.zone

Totem tennis! The dog fucking loved it! That amber glass you speak of I have one. It's on the sliding door between my kitchen and lounge room. It a pain to clean.

3
aussie.zone

My late mother's house had it in a pattern of bottle bottom circles, in the sliding door to the lounge.

2

All of that. Yes.

Also, when I was 12, Dad bought a new tv, so I got the little CRT TV with the coatwire antennas for my bedroom. It had faux wood panelling down the side too, I loved it.

I would close my bedroom door and stay up late with the TV on 1 volumn, I'd sit right up close to it, and watch South Park and then Drawn Together lol.

No siblings, no disturbances. I credit both shows for my inappropriate and wack sense of humour haha

4

Hmm I think getting home after school and racing down to the park to meet friends there to play for an hour or two.

Also fondly remember episodes of Totally Wild on in the afternoons.

4
aussie.zone

I've been going through and watching episodes of the Simpsons and whenever I watch the intro it's giving me so much nostalgia for watching it at 6pm on both channel 10 and Fox8.

4

Not nostalgia particularly, but it was a blast from the past when the other day I found one of those old ring-pull tabs that used to be on drink cans. Also called 'pull-tabs' I think. Not sure when they were phased out in Aus, but in the UK they were mostly gone by the late 80s and replaced by the 'stay-tab' we all know today. The ring-pulls were sharp and dangerous and were littered a lot, so I certainly don't miss them!

3
aussie.zone

daylight savings makes me nostalgic. I used to fucking love it when daylight savings started: it meant me and the other kids in the street were gonna be out on our bikes , at the park, rollerskating (later blading), whatever for HOURS after school, plus it was almost christmas, and summer, and all the good things.

i mean, I still love DS, it just also makes me nostalgic.

2
aussie.zone

DS was just the best. Playing cricket in the street until all hours. Good times.

3

smashing the ball iver the neighbour's fence repeatedly not only for 6 runs but so I could go and pat their dog

2

I have fond memories of watching first run simpsons on my older brothers little tv in his bedroom while tucking in to my looney tunes microwave meal that my mum would make when I was being fussy. the Daffy duck spaghetti and meatballs and bugs bunny chicken nuggs were my favourites

Story time to cheer this place up a bit. So this was about 2002 and the man and I went to Sydney for a few nights. We stayed in the Ibis which was in Darling Harbour. At about 9:30 there was a massive display of fireworks. It went for about 10 minutes. We're both thinking what the fuck is this about (It was Melbourne cup weekend so we were very confused). We decided to go for a walk and we ended up at the convention centre (I think that's what it's called). Big sign out the front WELCOME. Heaps and heaps of very happy people around, lots of colours, music playing, just a really good atmosphere. A little bit of curiosity and a throng of people propelled us into this building (the man whispers into my ear "I think someone just touched me on the arse") and up or down the escalator (I can't remember) people hugging and kissing and cheering and waving and lots of noise and we are inching along, heading for a door. Then I spot the sign next to the door WELCOME TO THE GAY GAMES.

The man is bopping along to the music and then I had to tell him "I think we're gatecrashing". I point to the sign. We are nearly at the door. We look at each other and turn around to head out. Very similar to Ikea when you go the opposite way but worst. The man says "I got tapped on the bum three times in there". In all fairness he has got a great bum.

Still to this day we don't know what the gay games are about but everyone was having a great time.

Side note: We had access to the Novetel pool next door where we stole 4 brand new bath towels.

9

In case you're serious, the Gay Games is modeled on the Olympics, but for gay people. It's a sports competition.

2

I warm up quickly, but I get legit cold which is a wonder with some of the body fat I carry.

Like I am waiting for a flight dressed like an Eskimo. I have a tee on, a heat tech turtleneck, a jumper and a poncho that looks like a sleeping bag.

Just tried the Aldi herring in mustard sauce. Not a fan. The sauce was no good unfortunately. Aldi herring in tomato is decent though. Pretty good to just dump the tin into some pasta and mix.
Overall, I am finding I pretty much only want my tinned fish to be in olive oil, nothing else - and no other oil.

The curry one is not spicy and a little bit sweet if you were wondering.

Shame they don’t have a plain one in oil though.

Also no hash browns at Aldi.

3
aussie.zone

I have tried that one too, better than the mustard, not as good as the tomato sauce in my opinion. Still none are as good as just the Brunswick brand plain Kippers I reckon.

1

Yeah. The Brunswick one tasted really nice because of the smoked flavour.

I’ll still get the Aldi one on occasion as I also enjoyed them and they’re slightly cheaper price to weight ratio wise.

2

2 days ago I complained of it being a rough 24 hours. I had no idea. Kiddo got sent home from daycare and put on quarantine for a fever. Needed a sick note to get him back in. Mrs just started a new job so I stepped up. Doctors office was being a shit about the medical note to get him to return, kiddo was unhappy and the mrs's supposedly fixed car died in the arse at 100kmh on the freeway. Yeah.... im tired.

For lunch I bought a Campbells pumpkin soup. I rarely have soup but i have a headcold, didn't want to make a batch from scratch and felt like something soothing.

This is not very nice soup. Way too sweet and not thick. I don't think I'm gonna finish it.

Luckily the knot rolls I got from the bakery are perfection.

8

Exercises completed. Felt a bit stiff and sore after my little tumble last night.

No Mr Peeler needed a Dr to attend last night over a non emergency but still serious matter which we were worried was worsening and turning into something else. I called 13sick. Long story short, after telling me there was a Dr in the area, they then sent a txt msg that there wasn't and switched it to a Telehealth appointment, which in this instance was next to useless. When the Dr finally rang he told me that Mr Peeler needed to see a Dr in person for an examination. Well duh, thought I, who has 0 years of med school. Lots of bad reviews.

8

I think I need to start thinking of myself and looking after myself better.

Someone else complaining of not being relieved in time from duty so they can have their lunch, all while I always get relieved late, I'm always starting on time and taken advantage of while this other person who is filling today, while their timetable might have been filled up, didn't turn up for at least the first 5 minutes and was on their phone the entire time of their yard duty while I did the heavy lifting.

And I suck it up just about every week taking it. I think that now needs to stop because I'm grumpy, tired and peeved off.

Funny call from an Amnesty phone chugger today. His words are in inverted commas, mine are not.

"Do you want a copy of the lgbtqia+ ally guide?" Apparently I asked for one somewhere. I don't remember doing so. Ummm, well, I guess maybe I asked for it so I could give it to my mother, she's trying but not the greatest ally. "Do you want to be a great ally to all your lgbtqia+ peers?" Ummm, I'm trans and gay. I'm not sure I need it, but I guess I could be a better ally too. Ok, send it along. Did you know that in 68 countries it's still illegal to be gay. Yes. "Something something, death, capital punishment, homophobia something death, despair pain" Ok, fair. "Now, would you like to pay 30$ a month to help us create change in those countries?" I can't really afford at the moment. I had to leave a transphobic workplace where I was also bullied by queer staff and now earn substantially less money. "Well consistency is more important than the amount, how about $10" No, please stop. I volunteer for a transgender advocacy and peer support organisation who are actively promoting change across Victoria. I'm doing something proactive locally, which is about all I have the capacity for at the moment. "Ok can we just confirm your email address? It's [email protected] correct?" Uh yeah, that'll work but that's my DEAD NAME! "ok DEADNAME, I'll send the ally guide there" I'm feeling definitely good enough today and share and laugh about this, but fucken ell, ally this, death suffering, chugger chugger, deadname, ally that. ok? LMAO

Saw something really interesting in a tram the other day. I got on and moved toward the front cos that would be easier when I got off. But it strongly stunk like stale piss and I quickly moved to the other carriage of the tram away from the stink.

From there I noticed there were 3 people sitting up the front in a pretty much empty carriage, the rest of us were crowded in the other carriage.

Looked to me like a good way to sort out those who have lost their sense of smell because of covid.

3

This is a different house. I like both for different reasons but this one they need to upsize which is why they are selling and needs minimal work. Plus I will have no debt and the implications of that are so good (travel, providing for little one, savings). But no idea what their thinking is. It's been on the market for 2 months and I know they've put an offer in on another house which I think has been accepted so really up in the air but I feel like it is promising. I am just impatient.

5

Yeah, it was a mixtape-from-the-future type thing and was awesome. I miss mixtapes. I really put some proper thought into a couple and gave them to some people. Once or twice I would get a text saying they liked them, asking about a certain artist etc. That was cool. I made one for my partner early on. A couple of years ago I was looking for a playlist on our YouTube and saw that she'd made a playlist of that mixtape. That was cool too.

It turns out sox IS unhappy as she was being very combative when I got back. Possibly from not being allowed full range of the apartment, but something's happened to an eye while I was out - isn't opening to the full extent and there's a small amount of dried exudate from the corner of her eye. And she's been tetchy and swishing her tail and when I tried to give her some bupenorphine to ease her until tomorrow, it was an epic fight. Loud hissing, full on teeth and claws, REEOOWWW!!!!!s - constantly attacking my hands - never been this bad. Poor puss, I can't figure out what hurts in her body and I can't get enough of a look at her eye to see what's going on exactly.

Anyway, whatever devil magic is in Churu, it solves all - she climbed onto my lap eagerly for that kitty crack and despite still being uncertain she finally allowed me to get the bupe in through the corner of her mouth. I think. Such a small amount, it might have dribbled down a corner and as I had to get to her under a small table I couldn't really see.

Have to look at the eye situation again in the morning...

I don't often watch actor interviews (although I do enjoy a bit of long form journalism) but watching non US actors get interviewed on US talk shows always gives me an awkward sort of laugh. I know it's not intentional but so often it comes across as how could someone possibly be famous outside of the US, like they'll list off a few of their works and it'll be the most obscure thing they did a million years ago that by some power of God made it to American telly for half a minute.

3
aussie.zone

Have a look at Parkinson's back catalogue. He was a great interviewer. Also, for a more modern take, check out the Graham Norton show. Somehow (it's booze) that guy gets everyone chatting and laughing amongst themselves and still directs the interview to a satisfying end.

3

I love Graham Norton, he’s so charming and gets the best out of people (except Madonna, that one was a train wreck)

Oh I don't mind Graham Norton, provided the guests are a good mix, he's very good at getting an almost banter like setting where the guests begin asking each other questions. I also don't mind Alan Carr (also gets his guests drinking), but mostly because he has a very uncanny ability to get his guests down into some utterly filthy conversations.
