CPU and memory upgraded today

Hello everyone,

I made a long overdue upgrade to the CPU and memory of the server by doubling both. Hope that helps some of the slow load times. I sometimes forget how many active users this server has and that number has only grown in the past year.

Thanks!

Not perfect, but it does seem much faster and MUCH more stable. Load times are less than 10s compared to ~30s before and I haven't had a time out error yet. That's using Voyager as a frontend app and download speeds of 227Mbps for reference. Thanks for what you do seahorse! Hope you never feel underappreciated.

I guess that was the downtime overnight? Glad to see an active admin team. Sounds like it's time for me to setup a support subscription. Is there a Patreon account, or similar?

No, wasn't overnight. Not sure what that was about but CPU was at 100% for most of it. That's when I decided to upgrade the resources.

There's a liberapay link in the sidebar if you're so inclined.

The sidebar for the whole instance? I think that's jusy not visible anywhere, in Jerboa. I'll have to look for it at my desktop, later.

Thanks very much! Curious what the specs are at this point, if you’re willing to share!

Boy 120GB doesn't seem like much. Do photo uploads go somewhere else, perhaps?

What CPUs are they? Like a modern Epyc, or a crusty 20 year old box like some of our appsrvs at work?

I guess it doesn’t need much for essentially database and the base of the website. I always figured it would need more. Any plans on going physical?

Just chiming in with another thank you for this as well as everything else you do! The difference is super noticeable, and makes the experience a lot better.

Hi there! first of all thanks for all your work- i love this instance- and second, sorry if this is the wrong place, i literally could not figure out where else to ask- but is it normal that i'm experiencing ~30 second or more load time when trying to access any page on the instance? i don't use an app, just browse thru firefox on my phone. if this is expected, what kinda infrastructure do we need to improve it / where can i donate? if not, what am i doing wrong? i love being here but sometimes the wait time makes it inaccessible for my doomscrolling.

Strange. I doubled the cpu not long ago. I'll look into it more. Not sure what could be going on. Thanks for reaching out.
