For a non footballing nation we did exceptional to get into the semis.

I was definitely rooting for the Matildas. Very exciting team to watch. Kerr's goal today was stunning.

All around a great job by these ladies at the cup, they have lots to be proud of.

Poms are gonna waste time like nothing else.

Could be 10 minutes added on, with only 20 minutes to go....

Let’s see if it’s 1-0 before we decide..

Any worse and the grasshoppers might have the need to justify their continued existence 🦗

Between the jinx and the grasshoppers not mobilising en masse, I’m not sure the girls stood any chance 🤷

Sigh

Oh well. England were too good, Matilda’s still played well. I reckon we’ve got the edge on Sweden for 3rd.

Hope so. Lots of chances there in the 2nd half. Just shows the quality of our players. Very proud.

Welp!

That is a dagger 🗡️

Just gonna file this one right next to my Johnny Wilkinson memories.. deep deep down..

Who would’ve thunk huh… thank god for the ashes

@tuff_wizard “I was interested in it and now I’m not”

Most of Australia Now

Why bother posting that?

I assume you weren't interested in it,so why seek out somewhere and post that?

I was interested while we had a chance to win.

Like most Australians were.

Thanks! Upvoted!

It's contributions like yours that helps grow communities 😀

I just realised this was the fifa community. It must have been crossposted to the Australian community which is where I saw it, and what guided my sooky comment.

My bad.

I've never been that interested in soccer. I played it is school but that was it. I didn't even know Saturday's game was on until I saw social media when it was over.

But you better believe I'm watching it tonight. There's probably a lot of people like me coming out of the woodwork.

Go the Matilda's!!

We need to give them back their heroes!

Sammmyyyyyy

Vine should have subbed in earlier, wasnt Raso's game. They picked up energy toward the end but not enough time. Incredible goal by Kerr and they've had an awesome campaign. Poms too strong

Uhoh...

Feel like a couple of times Mackenzie should have come for the ball tonight...

Imagine talking about a public holiday if we win the whole thing, 2 games out...

You don't want them to make the final, or you don't want a holiday if they win?

I wanted a win, public holiday or no.

But you don't look beyond the opponent in front of you.

Oh, please, please enlighten me!

Who is this opponent in front of me?

Well, speaking contextually, no one. They've been knocked out.

If you're asking about you personally, that's a question with an answer that requires a certain level of introspection. Not me tho, couldn't really give a rat's.

@Juggs But you don’t look beyond the opponent in front of you.

Oh, you mean "One match at a time". Like an interview with any sportsperson in any sport.

Sorry, was thinking about something more....

2

Lol. I used to be a psychiatrist, but after I treated myself, I've never been better!

Just for the record, would you have supported a public holiday Australia wide if the Matilda's won or lost in the final? And why/why not?

1

Neither team looks nervous, which is good for us. Thought we might have started shaky

The morning after, am still disappointed in the defensive error/s that sunk Australia. It was down to the tactical pressure from England that worked to a tee. No matter what Wiegman said about England not being the favourites, Oz needed to play a flawless game to get past the Lionesses, and they didn't. I have both a British and Australian passport, so technically I have a team in both remaining games… but I would have preferred it the other way round.

Even though I only watched Spain's semi win and saw a couple of England games in the tournament. I would rank England and strong favourites for the Final. If Australia can pick themselves up, they can get a result against Sweden but I don't think it will be a walkover.

It's been a fun ride.
