Hot take. Fireworks are stupid and disruptive.

I dont think Peck was arguing that you should call the cops, just saying that fireworks are bad, a factually correct statement.

My city allows fireworks. We are the only city that does in my area so people come from all over the place to set them off.

At a certain point last night there were so many going off that I started to wonder if I were shoot .40 cal into the ground would anyone be able to hear it. So I did. I went into my backyard (alone) found a safe spot and shot one into the ground. I was correct in my assumption. There is no way anyone could tell. So I got away with it. The point of all of this is if I needed to ever kill my neighbor I would just wait until the 4th.

Just to add I was sober last night and alone.

It's always 'don't be a karen and call the cops on illegal fire works' followed by 'why the fuck did you not call the cops on the illegal fireworks' after house fires break out.

I'd like to remind everyone that fireworks are an explosive. Want to know how dangerous fireworks are? Ask ER staff what kind of injuries they see the most on 4th of July.

The explosive kind?

Funny. In Germany we have been discussing banning fireworks for new years for a while now since more and more people realize the mix of alcohol and fireworks is a bad idea and traumatizing pets, war refugees and old people, killing wildlife and poisoning the air for days to come is not worth it so some people can watch something go boom.

It's not just the 4th of July. Assholes here sell and set off fireworks for any possible holiday.

Edit: I love fireworks. I love watching the huge shows and setting them off myself. I don't like hearing them at 3am on Christmas morning. Or the three days leading up. Or the next month of random explosions until they pick up again for the new year, of which is when they should be used. But then they continue until they're sold again for valentines day. Once again, I love fireworks, just not to celebrate the existence of Wednesday.

21

Nah, they made it legal where I'm at, and now there are fireworks tents out for any holiday.

Well... If the wife doesn't wake up it might be better to just let her get her much needed rest, as well as enjoy some peace and quiet at long last. Plus the ambulance/coroner visit might not be cheaper than a shovel from home depot.

Don't worry if she starts smelling bad after a few days, it's natural.

As for the cat, figures. With all the chaos they might as well take advantage of the situation and enact their plan to take over mankind as the dominant species.

14

Counterpoint: if you can't keep the debris off other people's property, you don't have enough room to be setting off fireworks.

Heh. Opposite to everyone here, I am pro-fireworks.

Once a year.

Bird deaths are sad thing but if it's a planned thing once a year, people can shelter their pets and folk who are vulnerable can simply prepare. No harm done, honestly.

But oh my god do I want to murder wankers who proceed to shoot fireworks, often just under peoples windows, for weeks after that. Dear god am I feeling hateful for that.

And yeah, about why I like fireworks - they are pretty, feel amazing, are special occasion and overall, are fun. And yes, that's literally blowing money into the air so I don't do that much, but I still love them.

Edit: Oh, and when done en-masse, there's something magical to them. Even awe inspiring.

Jup, no harm done. Just millions of wild animals that get scared, wounded or are dying as a result. Not to forget the massive pollution of the air and the environment or the people with pets or special needs who are in most cases not really able to protect themselves from that. We humans are so shitty that this is by far not the worse we do. But "no harm done" is a sick joke.

Are you shooting in forest or something? Birds in cities, yes, and I even admitted it in my previous comment, so what's you on about?

And what do you mean people with pets or special needs are not able to protect themselves? Ever heard of a radio? One of many things you can use to drown out the shots for pets. Or are you just sitting your pets on the window and pointing at the beautifully ligthened sky while the poor pet shivers beside you, like psychopats?

And for people - headphones exist. It's literally one night a year.

So yeah, no harm done.

What a selfish and self centered argument.

When I lived in LA it started a week early and on the 4th itself it was a fireworks show finale amount of fireworks for 8 hours straight.

But just turn on the radio.... right.

Maybe it's time to realize different places are different and there may be values to other people's perspectives even if they don't reflect your particular worldview.

Hey, you're supposed to be shitting on the same thing everyone else is shitting on, not making reasonable points that I totally agree with!

Fireworks might be beautiful for a moment, but they leave behind a trail of harm.

They pollute the air with toxic chemicals and fine dust, spiking asthma and breathing problems. After events like July 4th or Diwali, air quality drops dangerously — and people with lung issues feel it immediately.

The noise isn’t just loud — it’s traumatizing. Pets panic, birds die, and people with PTSD or autism often suffer in silence.

Tradition isn’t a good excuse when it causes this much damage. Not all traditions are worth keeping — especially when they hurt the most vulnerable.

AI detectors don’t work reliably, and often just end up flagging autistic people as AI. And even if it is, the points can still be valid. The em dash is a big giveaway, but those are also common with people who read a lot of fanfic (cough autistics cough). Because the em dash is commonly used in fanfic dialogue, so fanfic readers and writers get used to seeing and using it.

At this point. I just block anyone I see using the em dash. Will a few false positives slip in? Sure, but I'm confident that I'm blocking more bots than nots.

Gimme a cool drone show over fireworks any day

I went to Universal around last Christmas and they had an awesome drone show. I had never seen anything like it and didn't even know it was a thing. 100% better than a fireworks display.

Are you implying that people and animals should rather die?

celebrating your terrorist country - NO

taking action action your terrorist government and peers disguised by the sounds of fireworks - YES

I really want to call on the dipshits down the street (they're aiming their bottle rockets down the street instead of up in the air) but they haven't broken or burnt anything yet. We might get lucky.

It's funny to see lemmings not like fireworks. First time the reaction to fireworks has been to cry.
