Thank 🙏 Mostly I just share the 'best of' I've found over the years, but it's nice to know that my meme stash of obscure historical trivia brings a little entertainment to others as well!

Hell yeah, these memes are fire, and the fact that there is an explanation below each one is double fire. I always visit this community CVM MAGNO GAVDIO

Explanation: Octavian, later the Emperor Augustus, had a tendency to miss or be out of command for major battles. He was a sickly lil' guy and usually wore a sunhat when outside. During one of the final battles of Julius Caesar's civil war, he was too sick to attend (I am sure he had a doctor's note). During one of the most important naval battles of his life, the Battle of Naulochus, he sent his right-hand man and best friend, Agrippa, to fight while he remained on shore.

Later, he personally intervened to spend an enormous sum on a raven that could say "Hail Caesar!" Which, tbf, is pretty fuckin' cool.

Cleopatra should have done the same.
Pretentious bitch fled the scene "out of womanly anxiety" so we hear.
Her wing of the naval for e followed and from then on the battle went in favour of Anthony Agrippa.

I require the explanation. I come here everyday to educate myself on Roman history by reading the explanations. I demand them.

Sorry, had to double-check some things to make sure my memory wasn't jumbling up battles of Octavian's life XD
