Missing comments or posts
I noticed a lot of communities or posts are missing when I view them from my lemmy.ca account vs. the piefed.ca one.
An example would be the [email protected] community.
I can only see around 5 posts from my Piefed.ca account while my Lemmy.ca can see what seems to be all of them.

Some of this is expected. An instance only knows about the content that it pulled in, and so piefed.ca is missing a lot of stuff from before we spun it up. Similarly, it doesn't start pulling in content from a community until someone from here searches for it. We did a bit of that before we launched, but there are lots of communities that are still not fetched. You may have been the first one to try to access ![email protected] :)
For example, we accessed the main ![email protected] community a while back, and so both views are similar (and hopefully identical) by now:
Piefed.ca's feeds should continue to get better over time as more people use it. Lemmy also has a few tricks to improve this process, such as a third party tool that automatically broadcasts new communities so they can be pulled in. Something like that might become available or compatible with Piefed in the future.
It might also be possible to bulk import old posts into piefed, but I'm not sure if that's possible right now. We were able to do something similar with Pixelfed when we spun that up, but we relied on some built in functionality for it.
Ah this totally makes sense. I remember Lemmy having similar issues early on but it became a moot point as time went on and more users began to use it.
Hopefully there is a way to bulk import old posts in the future.

I'm still noticing this sometimes for communities that are already subscribed on piefed.ca. For example, this post on ![email protected] which shows up on lemmy.ca but not piefed.ca, even though I'm subscribed to the community on both instances. I'm using my lemmy.ca and piefed.ca accounts interchangeably at the moment so sometimes I notice these inconsistencies on my subscribed view.
Try using the "fetch remote post" feature in the search menu
Using Retrieve a post from the original server on the sidebar I was able to fill it in that way; is that expected to be used often? I wouldn't even know to use it if I didn't have another account on lemmy.ca, so it seems weird as a feature.
It shouldn't be used once federation has been ongoing for a while.
It exists on Lemmy, but is kind of hidden (you search for a post URL)
