This is even more fucking tragic now. Not like there was any justification to shoot someone (other than them directly trying to kill you), but now I really want someone super rich to actually fund terraforming Mars, and just send all the bigots, racists, fascists, homophobes and xenobhobes up there in one single colony, with plenty of weapons and no regulations to play it off among themselves, leaving peaceful folks alone here on Earth.
