...the terms "homosexuality, homosexual, and Gender" hold undesirable connotations within Iraqi society.

Fellas, is it gay to have a gender?

With how many there are now, statistically, yes.

They are directing that the term “sexual deviancy” be used instead.

Iraq's Media and Communications Commission has issued a directive instructing all media and social media platforms in the country to refrain from using the terms "homosexual" or "homosexuality" and instead use "sexual deviancy."

The decision, reported widely by Iraq's state and private news outlets, was made to safeguard societal values and public order, the commission said, noting that the terms "homosexuality, homosexual, and Gender" hold undesirable connotations within Iraqi society.

What? They think calling someone a sexual deviant is better than calling someone a homosexual?

I can't even give them the leeway and say it's just meant to say “you're a minority.” They chose the word ‘deviant’ here: which implies there's a ‘correct’ sex

Maybe that's the point though. You're not allowed to be anything other than a straight male in Iraq.

It’s absolutely the point, they want to shame the gays into hiding. Later will come the executions if this doesn’t work

19

Your logical mistake is assuming this is meant to be an actual alternative. It's them blatant saying gay people are unwelcome.

I think the correct term is "sexually challenged."

Those to are not interchangeable. The terms homosexual and sexual deviant are 2 entirely different things one is a somewhat common form of attraction the other enjoys being shat on.

I'd argue that consenting adults can do what they want, the "deviants" are the ones trying to break the covenant of consent.

The definition of deviant is.

departing from usual or accepted standards

I guess both would be as such then

Words are defined by usage not by dictionary writers. When people use that word to describe other people they use it a pejorative.

This gets difficult when you interact with strangers on the internet over vast distances. People may say it that way where you are from, but not here, so all we have to call back on is literal definitions of the words

Who? The top comment? Because yes, I believe they were using the literal definition of the word

1

Florida already did this for their schools at least, the press is harder to silence in the us though

15

I assumed it's because they didn't want to put 'sexual deviant' in their headline.

2

If your societal values and public order are that tenuous and fragile, then perhaps you're focusing on the wrong problems.

2

You reached the end
