Milestone!

Hey gang, I saw that we’ve got over 175 folks subscribed to the community (small steps for mankind but giant steps for us) and we’re now the third largest community on Lemm.ee!

Welcome aboard everyone! Let’s keep the positivity and good conversation going! I love that folks are initiating new conversations and taking part with excellent comments, links, and discussion!

One thing I have seen a bit of is downvoting. I know it’s probably a foolish errand to even ask this, and with federation, the height of futility, but can we try to use downvotes to express that a topic or comment is inappropriate or out of place and not that we disagree or just don’t like it? Let’s try to rid ourselves of some our bad habits from Reddit and not carry them forward.

That said, I couldn’t be more happy and proud of everyone here for coming in and lending a hand to build this community up in these early days!

Game on!

Hear, hear!

The downvote button means "this is not a worthwhile contribution to the discussion," not "I disagree." That's what the reply button is for.

@Tim_Eagon @[email protected] @HexedPress Well, yes and no I think? I've also seen discussions - where there was no downvote button - deteriorate because people posted stupid nonsense that couldn't be downvoted. So this is not an easy problem to solve, without resorting to forcing people to go through a mini-tutorial on how to use the downvote button before they're allowed to. And even then, people would still misuse it.

That's awesome! What a great start! I wholeheartedly agree regarding the up and down votes: even on Reddit they were supposed to be indicators of relevancy to the topic, not personal agreement.

Hi yall, just started looking at lemmy today, and how exactly do you subscribe to a community on the mobile page? Does it matter that I'm reading this on lemmy.world rather than lemm.ee?

Doesn't matter that you're on LW.

Click "sidebar," then click subscribe.

Congratulations! 🥳🎉 I'm glad to see that there are a bunch of people who are interested in old school TTRPGs.
