Do you guys remember the episode of TNG where people kept vanishing, and only Dr. Crusher remembered them?
I think if they had done that in DS9, to O'Brien, he wouldn't even have noticed, and got caught up on his maintenance. Finally got everything fixed just in time for the universe to collapse in on him.

Removing a couple of those increases efficiency
Most of the gains come from removing Quark.
