Hello everyone,

I am learning piano for the first time. I have been a musician for 25 years or so, entirely on brass instruments. I can read music (mostly bass clef) and I recently bought myself a casio piano keyboard with the intention of learning how to play more "complete" music than I could on my euphonium.

I can fiddle around on my horn and recreate any melody I hear, but it would never be complete chords or a melody with a harmony all at once. The piano seems like what I want in order to achieve that goal. Right now I am trying to nail down the muscle memory required to play both hands at once, and also fiddling around with the muppet show theme song. I'll likely be back to post what tutorials work for me and maybe even some of my progress!

Have fun! Don't neglect your scales. They're boring, but effectively build useful muscle memory.

I have been a bit lazy here. I focused instead on arpeggios for a given key, and working through the major keys (as I don't think I've ever been exposed to minor keys, and that can be a later problem). I can play those fairly well, I have the major key pattern memorized at this point. I just cant seem to handle two hands at once

Sorry this didn’t get any response. I can play guitar a bit and read music and am interested in music theory, and I’d like to learn piano. I also just bought a Casio keyboard! If you’re still around, let me know how it’s going.

I'm still here! So much life has happened between when I posted this and today, so I haven't practiced as much as I could, but I'm making progress. I have been trying to learn "into the unknown" from over the garden wall as my first song. It's got a fun bass line which I love, and I enjoy how ominous the song is
