After being "a really amazing candidate, ษ“ut we just had this other person with x" for way too many jobs, I've finally been offered a job that's interesting, uses some of my skills, is 20 minutes from home, and is good money. Fucking finally.

28

That's amazing. I think my work being so close to home has made it a lot more tolerable than more interesting jobs further away

7

Congrats! You deserve a break after such a long job search. And to hit the trifecta of easy commute + interesting/relevant + $ is particularly awesome.

5

aww yiss. the peasant employers were merely placeholders keeping you free until the prize job came up.

4

I am pleased to inform you all that today coming home there was no terrorist on my train.

I admit to getting a little nervous when we stopped at Footscray.

13

My afternoon downers are hitting about 3 earlier.

I did not consent to this.

Slept too well to justify a coffee, but one tea ainโ€™t cutting it.

4

I slept really well too BUT woke up at and 5 and fell back asleep until 6 instead of getting up.

I'm well rested but need a caffeine jolt.

Saaaame. Fucked a tyre around the corner from work (so not far enough away that I could use it as an excuse to not come in), warehouse is absolute fucking shambles, just grumpy at everyone.

4

Sorry could help myself

::: spoiler nswf humour Of course you came in when you fucked a tyre. Itโ€™s not like you can pull out! :::

6

Take your trend back, please!! Glad to read you had a pretty view while waiting at least!

4

Oh shit that's a bad way to start the week.

Hope this day flies and tomorrow is a fresh and better start.

Are we you the song about blowjobs? The song about coming? Or the song about saunas?

Wild that this is a perfectly valid sentence this year! I am 100% sauna, but I intentionally donโ€™t listen to too many songs before hand so may be surprised on the night.

I'm looking around at all the stuff that needs to be packed and feeling very unmotivated. I'd like a magic wand please.

11
TinyBreakreply
aussie.zone

I'll do you one better. Let me present the Tinybreak guide to packing:

1)Make a bunch of Boxes

2)Pick up an item

3)consider "does this spark joy"?

4)Decided you dont care, yeet it into a box.

To take this to the pro level: -Skip Step 3 and try to avoid putting fragile shit at the bottom. A couple of drinks and a bluetooth speaker with some gym music really helps things along too.

To be clear, this is legit advice. yeet it all into a box sort it out at the other end.

8

I still have a few weeks before the move and I'd like to cull some of my stuff a bit more instead of moving stuff I don't actually want. Panicked yeeting into a box is scheduled for everything left the week before the move.

I have managed to pack two boxes of fragile servingware today. All boxes are being liberally padded out with bits of fabric from my stash. By the time I get to the sewing room there should not be much fabric left to pack.

Sending house pixies your way, when I find them

5
Rusty Ravenreply
aussie.zone

Ooh, I leaned about how to find those when I was in Brownies. You have to go find a pond, turn around three times and look in the water while reciting a rhyme to see them. It goes "twist me and turn me and show me the elf". You look in the water and see..... yourself.

Indoctrinating young girls into their role as house keepers, gotta love it. Pretty sure the Scouts didn't get that one. Unfortunately it's also right, this is all on me. I'd rather a helpful pixie.

Ah, was never part of such an organisation but it sounds unpleasant.

Ooh ooh ooh I think the ABC have quietly called Kooyong for Monique Ryan. Still in the realm of just under 700 votes ahead at 89.4% of votes counted, but if the ABC is confident about this then... hooray! Can't do much about Tim Wilson but it'll be great for Amelia Hamer to be relegated to irrelevance

E: official ABC update re Kooyong

I feel sorry for Zoe Daniels and footage of her early celebrating only to lose her seat. At least Monique won't suffer the same fate!

5

Yes, that was definitely a bit arrogant of Zoe... I think Monique and co are trying to lie low after that whole thing with her husband

Looking after aunt's doggo for 3.5 weeks in a few days.

Have to juggle that w/ a bunch of other stuff but should be alright. Pretty low maintenance at his age now thankfully. Being so long gonna see if I can get him a bit more fit.

Miss Meow is too busy doing her quality control nap checks on Mr Woof's carry cage to be playing with the washing.

Late start to the day but I'm going to find the motivation to start on this cursed thesis somewhere, I know I'll find it... maybe it's behind my couch... maybe I should check my butthole (ski-bap, ba-dap, butthole!)

I still haven't taken out my oodie btw. I AM loving these glorious sunny but cool days without too much wind, but I was expecting this last month?? Not now? I haven't even worn my trackpants yet!

Trying to find motivation on a Monday morning is no easy task.

I suggest giving up for the moment and regrouping later today or tomorrow.

Motivation will be found much easier.

The time is ticking towards writing this damn thing, and I have taken two weeks off work precisely to focus on it...

... But also I do have that sweet extension till the end of next month, and I do know my brain is like a petulant toddler that needs to be coaxed into doing the right thing if it doesn't feel like working (unless urgent deadlines or large amounts of money is involved). Currently I'm at the "let's see if we can just write out some dot points and call it a day" stage

Righto. Coming up this evening. Will probably kick in right as you want to go to sleep. Will provide the 'do it now and get it over with' version, unless you want the 'help help the deadline approaches far too quickly' version. Please let me know what your preference is.

I recall having similar issues in my uni days.

Somehow I made it.

But would not do it again the same way hahaha.

Made it way too hard for myself

I swear I'm completely done with higher education after this thing, I just don't have it in me to work on these sorts of long nebulous projects any more. Especially for free!

The expensive maintenance thing the previous owner of my van was putting off turned out to be a timing belt. So my plans to maybe go to the new place tomorrow have been put off to allow time for the belt to be replaced. Otherwise all looks as expected for a six year old van, so that's good.

Mr Woof's new travel crate has been put together and I have his sheepskin blanket folded in the bottom. He should be quite cosy there once he gets used to the idea of being confined - I just have to work out the best way of strapping it down in the back of the van.

I'm starting to party plan this week I'm thinking I might need to buy some nice new drinking glasses then I look in my cupboard and I discover I really don't but they will need a nice wash.

We were gifted a large amount of crystal glassware as engagement/wedding gifts.

There's an entire cupboard dedicated to it. They are used very, very rarely.

Shit is overrated as hell.

Yea my grandparents handed down a shitload of waterford crystal. Never used. Stuff is probably expensive but coffee mug for my goon is more practical.

We have 4 crystal decanters.

I've used two, so I can feel fancy.

Sure they're nice to look at, but pretty large and awkward to use and clean.

They stay hidden

Glasses are meant to be used. That's my theory going in. I no longer care.

2

I agree but we just don't use them. Personally I don't like them and the cupboard they're in requires crouching to access.

No thanks.

So they stay hidden and pristine.

Pretty much given up on work. Only delivering the essentials and not taking any initiative since other teams have started dumping their tasks on us with no consequences. Warned my boss that the reward for other teams not doing their work is them getting to assign us isnโ€™t going to fly with me.

Apparently, our director โ€œisnโ€™t happy with the situationโ€ but given they are yet to do anything to stop it they may as well be endorsing it.

6

The new toaster oven/air fryer has arrived. I have a test batch of hash browns cooking now.

I'm glad I was able to get the spiffy black and silver model, it matches the black microwave quite well.
