Even as a kid I thought this scene was very weird. If it's that strong to use your tongue, why doesn't everybody do this? Like the others have toungs as well, but just didn't use them. This could have ended very differently.
I think it's the same thing as the guy in a recent NASCAR event using video game logic and just smashing into the wall to get around everyone faster - no one was dumb enough to try it before.
