This is relevant (link doesnt add traffic to reddit). Do this instead of just deleting your account to poison their data and actively harm reddit's value for when they go public. The more comments you have made on that account, the better.

  • [Choose 1/3] Open https://www.zompist.com/gen.html, take off the line saying “ki|či”, and click “Generate”. You’ll get some random babble like “Bepe topioi kabi brete i kropra”, copy it somewhere.
  • [Choose 2/3] Open https://sebpearce.com/bullshit/ to get an entire bullshit article
  • [Choose 3/3] Open https://nonsense.x2d.org/ to get a bullshit sentence, i suggest getting a few ones.
  • Open your Reddit profile and drag the button of Power Delete Suite to it.
  • [Optional] Check the box saying “prepare local backup of items”, if you want to save your content elsewhere.
  • Uncheck “remove comments”. You want to replace them with babble, not remove them.
  • [Optional] uncheck “remove posts”. It depends if you post mostly self posts or if you post links/pics. Use your reasoning.
  • Check “Edit comments / self posts”. It should open an input box for text; place the babble from one of the bullshit generators there. Then click “process”.
  • Just wait!
  • [Optional] Click to download the backup of the items.

How do you get power delete to get all the comments? It goes too fast and skips a bunch. I've been going back over with different filters to try and get them all but it for sure isn't working great. It does work though, just not 100% thorough.

It hits server-side rate limiting, you need to tone it down to a few seconds between each edit. The developer is aware, but haven't found the time to address it.

In the meantime, I hacked up a fixed version that waits 5 seconds between each edit: https://codepen.io/Deestan/full/gOQagRO/

I saw that. Seemed far too much hassle so I used Power Delete Suite to edit all of my comments to "moved to Lemmy", and then went again with the deletion

It was just one extra step then though; getting garbage text from one of the three generators.

oh yeah, fair enough haha. I think its also worth reminding people to save/ export their saved posts too as I almost nuked my account before i requested a data export
