Mine barely grew before a buddy suggested putting a foil wrapped cardboard backer behind them. Does double duty: bounces some light back to them and keeps their little window nook a bit warmer.

I had them in a warming tent with a reflective surface in the beginning, but then they got too big for it, and with the repotting, they won't fit at all, so that's a good idea.

Need to get them more light. If the days are warm enough move them outside. If not supental light is needed.

It's definitely not warm enough here yet. I do have two grow lights on either side of the table that are on 12-13 hours a day, but I might try the tin foil trick someone else mentioned.

2

Move the lights closer to the top of the plants.

Light follows the inverse-square law. So decreasing the distance between the lights and the plants by 1/2 increases the the intensity of the light by 4x.

How do you find the seedling heat mat? Does it work well?

I've been germinating my seeds with a tupperware in a bit of soil on a high shelf, but it only really works when I have the heater on in the house. Now nothing is sprouting cause the heat is off.

This is my first time growing anything from seed, so I don't really have anything to compare it to, but I think it's been helpful? I'm in the Northeastern US and it's still cold here, so I think it's been good to have.

I find that most seeds sprout well without a heat mat, but for peppers especially I bought one last year and I'm really glad I have one now. I use it for all seeds that like it warm and my sourdough starter. No problems with germination that way anymore.

2

It’s not “needed”, but it will make more seeds start and allow them to sprout faster.

I would rather have a 90% germ rate in a few days at ideal conditions, than 50% germ rate and it take 3 weeks.

Lol sourdough starter, OK I'm sold. The high shelf where I sprout seeds is also where I've been letting my dough rise cause the house is too cold
