I'd be careful with komoot. They've been operating at a pretty big loss and they were just bought out by a company that has a tendency to rinse a products features for money until everyone leaves. They'll then sell it on having (in their eyes) hopefully made a profit.

Maybe this will be different, but I doubt it.

That's bullshit. They were operating profitably (>1 Million in Profit in 2022/2023/2024), they just weren't scaling much anymore.

The Founders just got greedy and wanted a big payday

Yeah, heard of that news too. I only started getting used to it and bought some map with it, hope they will delay the inevitable.

I used to love how they didn’t have a subscription model. Just buy the maps once and you’re set.

I still buy the map and use it as it is, but subscription model and the new owner mean sooner or later it will turn poopy.

Yeah, I’m lucky I got in way before the changes. I think new users are stuck with having to pay for everything? Now I just can’t access the multi-day rides, which is inconvenient if I want to go bikepacking, but the workarounds are fine.

And yeah, they will probably find a way to make older users pay for basic features too.

Export routes from cycle.travel and open them in OsmAnd or Organic Maps or on a GPS device. They do the best routes for cycling and you can navigate in aeroplane mode, saving a tonne of battery and getting zero distractions 👍
