I don't disagree that it's clever and I like the message of the quote, but mostly I think that when I was younger I thought it was deeper than I do now.
Hopefully because soldiers killing each other is better than soldiers killing civilians. Unfortunately, many wars aren't fought to prevent civilians from being killed.
When I was young, I read a quote: "war doesn't determine who's right. It determines who's left."
At the time, I thought it quite clever and deep.
