It's been a good week now since I have had to deal with any people receiving DM spam. I don't want to jinx it, but we may have weathered that particular storm.

Was it that Nicole thing like in World?

Seeing that I kind of wish I could shut my DMs or whitelist. It looked creepy as

3
Nathreply
aussie.zone

Yep. With the generous help from the admin at lemmy.ca sharing his code, I implemented a few layers of defense that blocked the bulk of the DMs. It got to the point where the spam would just be an image (because of our spam filters). That was harder to block and I'm still not sure I managed it, but the DMs have stopped.

I'm still a bit surprised (though not unpleasantly) at the little microcosm of activity that these daily threads have.

There's a question I've been asking people for a while, might as well ask here too: what gets you up in the morning?

Same but I think I have a lazy bladder. It can hold a big wee but it'll wake me and complain when there's a tiny one loaded and ready to go. I don't put my red bin out every week because It's often empty or only has one bag in it so I figure why waste the trucks time. I need my bladder to get with that system.

That little fuzzy feeling in the morning when you wake up and you're nice and warm and snug and then you realise the reason you woke up is because you need a piss. ๐Ÿ˜ก

7

So I hop too hoping to catch a lil more zzz and go to the toilet then a fucking teaspoon of wee comes out and I don't get back to sleep. >: |

4

Sadly it's work and getting a car park that gets me up in the morning.

6

In a literal sense it's any one of these things: some noisy birds, my alarm, a plane flying low or loudly, my partner going outside for a cigarette. In a non literal sense it's a kind of strength and persistence of attitude which propels my life force ever onwards despite the efforts of my detractors lol.

5
aussie.zone

Woke up at 6, went to the bathroom and a wasp stung me on the back of my neck. Never seen a wasp like it. Fastest most erratic insect I've ever seen. Whole right side of the head felt like it was on fire for about an hour. Felt like a bullant sting but went for way longer.

Don't normally get too upset will little bites but this really tested my limit. Cheaper than a coffee though.

11

I guess the silver lining is now I know I won't die if get stung again by the same one lol.

I wish I knew what sort it was but it was way too fast.

First wasp bite though, so that's exciting.

Those little jobs that you put off doing but need to be done. I'm filling up all the soap dispensers.

I wish I could vote early but I don't meet any of the categories. I want to do my democracy now!

4

You can go vote early. I did mine yesterday and have been doing it for the last 3 elections.

They'll ask you if you meet the eligibility, just say yes and that's it.

If you need a reason just say you're out of the state at that time.

6
Pilkreply

The eligibility reasons to postal vote or vote early are not strictly enforced.

You could say you're travelling on May 3rd (even though you don't have firm plans to do so just yet...) you would be far from the only one making the same claim.

You don't need to provide proof.

5

Hey, do you and the fam want to come camping in Wombat state forest the weekend of the election?

4
tombruzzoreply
aussie.zone

Yeah, just rock up to a pre-poll place and say you'll be travelling and they'll let you. It's more 'preferred' if you vote on election day, they won't stop you voting early

3

Just saw someone whip it out and take a leak right there on the ground with heaps of people around at the Bourke x Swanston st tram stop ๐Ÿคฎ

8

I saw a guy with it out wanking on same street

i looked away asap

it's dreadful what has happened to the city and people

I'm going to need a lot more potting mix to pack up all the plants I want to take with me. The iris at least can be divided and stored over winter without soil, but most of the other things will need to be potted up.

I'm hoping the landlord will let me plant a bunch of stuff in ground so I won't need to buy bigger pots etc. for the future. It's a pretty ratty garden at the moment, so I can't see why they'd say no. Plus they can't "unreasonably refuse" permission to have a vegetable garden, and most of my stuff is edible.

I planted up a pot with some flowering bulbs this morning, I should also be able to take nasturtiums, kangaroo paw, borage, comfrey, artichoke, canna edulis (arrowroot), midjin berries, raspberrries, strawberries, lemon, lime, mandarin, apple, pear, thyme, rosemary, mint and maybe a bay tree. I'm sure I'll find a few others as well.

7

You are not just renting a house you are also renting the land. You can have gardens.

good luck saving all your plants ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ™‚

6

Installed a video doorbell on the fence/gate today. I can both spy on the street and keep the gate locked, but still deal with deliveries / visitors.

6
aussie.zone

Amazon doesn't even try with deliveries. I have an empty plant pot next to my front door, perfect for concealing delivered parcels. The Australia Post guy who does the deliveries in my hood gets it. Amazon just leaves the package on my front door mat for anyone to pinch. Hopefully it's still there when I get home tonight.

6

We have a mailbox at our doorstep literally made for parcels and most deliveries just get put behind it instead of inside

4

I set up a big concrete planter box with drainage plumbing and everything just for concealment purposes.

Deliveries end up behind it maybe half the time if Iโ€™m lucky.

Went to Aldi to get some beef ravioli and they were all sold out so I bought a lasagna instead and some fresh noodles for the weekend maybe.

Never tried their lasagna before so I guess Iโ€™ll find out if itโ€™s any good.

Some school kids saw me and called out to me as I was doing my shopping. Ahh so thatโ€™s what it feels like.

If it's the one from the fridge with the light blue label then it is good.

Also the garlic bread in the red packet is good too. They don't scrimp on the garlic butter.

Nah, all cool mate. Just hanging around so I don't crash too early otherwise I'll be up at the crack.

2

I think I found the perfect childcare watch. The Casio gmbd300 is your regular slim G-Shock, but can connect to your phone via Bluetooth.

It's not a smart watch, but you can do all the fiddly shit like setting the time and alarms on your phone and sync it with the watch

6

Motivation at rock bottom. Just want to delete any work commitments until I get back. Some other family stuff has cropped up that has me worried about a different relative... they might be in danger of spiralling badly and doing something stupid (but not reportable). Which might set off a bunch of other dominos. Nothing much I can do from here at this stage but it weighs on my mind. Would be nice for all that to hold off until late June thanks.

6

Man, this behemoth of a laptop has really chewed into my luggage allowance. Can't take my work laptop, will have to deal with accessing work stuff from SharePoint on my personal laptop instead.

I've been in a mad rush trying to clear out the fridge and tidy things up before tomorrow... Plus side is I made a kickass fried rice with all the leftover rice, enough for brunch tomorrow before the flight and for the freezer as an excellent meal for when I get back.

Once again I cannot be grateful enough for my dishwasher. Takes so much out of the chaos. My mind is in a million places... But I'm almost through my Anxiety List!

It sounds like a leave of absence might be a really good choice. Being so perpetually wired up and tense is no good, it doesn't seem like one of those situations where you'll get used to it and adapt, sounds like the path towards burnout instead...

I struggle a lot with procrastination and work avoidance myself, but after many years I've been able to identify what combination of factors work for me. I can say that the uni setting often doesn't work for me. Forcing myself to get through it has been like pulling teeth. So I strongly support you finding out what works for you as well and being gentle with yourself (while trying to survive the capitalist hellscape)!

7
imoldgreeegreply

That sounds like a wise choice. A year out could give you good perspective. When do you have to decide? It could be good to set out a job position before giving notice of leave so you don't cause yourself extra stress and you know what you are going into.

Noooโ€ฆ Melbcat has been feeling stressed lately and licking her little tummy raw. ::: spoiler spoiler :::

Sheโ€™s still been getting her calming Zylkene and Iโ€™ve been neglecting the garden to avoid leaving her inside by herself. But she is overdue for her Solensia (thanks health dramas and 4 days of public holidays). Maybe sheโ€™ll come good when I sort that.

Otherwise maybe I can put her in a babyโ€™s bodysuit (with the bottom snaps left open) as a way of protecting her skin. This howeverโ€ฆ would not help her stress.
