Video game genre communities on the Threadiverse

List more in the comments! I'll add them if they are a community for a video game genre, and have had at least one post in the last month. Crossposted to ![email protected] here.

I also found some genres with dead communities. Maybe someone would like to revive one, or make a new one (preferably on a smaller instance than lemmy.world)?

On my search for communities to put here I found some genres seem to be wholly missing. Let me know if I missed something!

  • MMOs
  • open world/sandbox
  • RPGs that don't really fit in CRPG or JRPG
  • shooters (think FPS, hero shooters, literally any shooting game that does not fit in the shmup/shoot-em-up genre)
  • simulation in general
  • sports
  • stealth

Good initiative!

I wish incremental.social would fix their federation issues; it's been unpredictable and janky for what seems like many months.

I reached out about this a few months ago. Admin mentioned it's on the TODO list, but I haven't seen any progress.

Not be annoying, but if you start a federated forum, if you are bothered enough to pay for the domain/hosting, you might as well make sure federation actually works.

Just my perspective, I could be wrong.

For what it is worth, when I log into my incremental.social account I see the posts you make there.

New posts works, but sometimes I can't see my own posts (new or otherwise) when accessing incremental.social with my LW account.

Perhaps the admin should reach out to other instances admins to try and figure out how to resolve this.

Thats important to know! I can only see Agent Karyo's posts and no other and no comments. I always thought that the community is dead...

A bot posts weekly and usually me, CardboardEmpress, laleyou, and kopi-pasted will comment; and sometimes we make posts. I just posted a game there in the past 3 days. Weird…

missing...shooters

What do you mean by this? Sometimes people are referring to shmups in using the term, but that's on the list. You mean lightgun games? Rail shooters?

I do know about shmups and probably should have made that exclusion in the post body, I will go do that. But I input "shooter" into the community search and got flat nothing. No FPS or anything, and given how popular those are I'm very surprised there is not any community for it. Not great with any more specific examples because I don't really play shooters myself.
