So I was the pied piper on the weekend and took a troop of kids to see the Minecraft Movie. It was an experience.
The movie itself was pretty typical middle-aged kids' fare. Fairly awful dialogue and cliched characters. Jason Moama was a surprise, I thought Jack Black was the only famous star in it. I have a feeling that in the right role, Jason would have some wonderful comedy chops. This movie was not it. Stiffler's Mum was funny, but all I could see was Stiffler's Mum. I think the two female leads were great and a good foil for the Jack Black/Jason Moama antics. Pity the girls didn't really have a lot to do in the plot.

If I'd been watching it on Blu Ray or streaming, I might have turned it off. As a movie, it's not great. However, watching it in a cinema on opening weekend in a room full of kids really made it wonderful. They were cheering at obvious fan-service references that I didn't get. Screaming out at "Chucky Chicken!" and I can't remember other bits. But you get the idea. The energy in the room was great.

So while I didn't particularly love the movie, I loved the experience of watching it.

I loved seeing Uncharted at the movies, the audience had a great time and their joy was infectious. It was a fun movie for fans and I enjoyed it too. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. 🙂

4

I hated the Uncharted movie but probably because I have the background of playing all the games.

The casting of it was so badly wrong, Tom Holland was the wrong choice and the way the movie went didn’t appeal to me as it was a mishmash of the 4 Uncharted Games.

3

I know it probably sounds stupid, but I'm a bit devo.

One of the strays, the little calico hasn't come to eat for the last 2 days and didn't see her today either.

I've gotten a bit attached to these guys and I think I need to take a little step back emotionally.

:(

sorry dude. Its tough hey. Hopefully means shes found a home!

7
aussie.zone

I didn't expect to get so attached tbh man. Tougher than I expected.

There was a dad and 2 kids about 2 weeks ago that came to see what I was doing and they said she looked exactly like their cat that ran away but they didn't think it was her.

Hopefully they came and got her and she's having a chill inside life now.

Know exactly what your going through.

I'll bet thats whats happened. They took her to get the microchip and it WAS her. Or the dads gone "You know what, i "think" its her she needs to come inside".

2

Can you maybe get a little camera to see if she’s around when you aren’t out there?

Or maybe ask around to see if they came and got her (if it’s safe to approach people)

3

Had to take today off due to migraine.

Annoyed but glad for the rest. In the past I would have either gone in, or freaked out all day because of moderate workaholism.

Not this time.

Laptop is off and will stay off till tomorrow. Not stressed about what they'll think.

It is what it is.

12

so many gentle hugs

it's autumn , it's migraine season

I've had one on and off since friday

Is it just me or are people super inconsiderate at the moment? Had people blowing smoke (vape or otherwise) whilst walking in front of me, people stopping to chat in tiny sections of supermarkets, people pushing to the front of the line, talking loudly on the phone (or even worse on speaker!), microwaving eggs in the office, singing in the office and acting like a session on the loo is year 9 drama club audition. Violence doesn't solve anything but maybe we should make a gentle slap over the back of the head socially acceptable for when people are being a rude fuck.

Covid definitely upped the main character syndrome. Five years and a lot of people are still unwilling to let that go

8

Going to the comedy festival first year after covid was fuccckkkkedd. Shut up, every audience cunt!

5

tbf it could be pretty fucked before covid. Dylan Moran had a couple of idiot black books fangirls treating it like their own personal performance and chaser had a pair of dipshits who legit stood up mid performance and started singing "imagine there's no chaser"

Gotta say this new backpack is amazing! I didn't realize the last one was so uncomfortable till I started using this one. its weird walking around the city without feeling like somethings is poking you in the back and pushing down on your shoulders.

11

The only justification for expensive stuff is sometimes they make considerations you didn't even think was possible

Bellroy classic. I'm a little bit regretting not getting the transit but the whole idea was a smaller more comfortable backpack so I had to be a bit more deliberate with what I'm carrying around.

One more work day then a 2 week break.

Have the choice of going in super early but basically the sooner I finish the work I’ve been assigned and tidy up the office area then I’m done for the day and it’s not going to take me too long I reckon.

Also I managed to get a new ID tag and my old one deactivated with a super quick turnaround thanks to a friend now managing it all at work and they had a shift to cover over at my site so basically all it took was 4 hours for me to get a new ID Tag, this time with my photo and name on it and no cost to pay, yay!

9

Oh I will be tomorrow, wonder I should to get to work tomorrow by 7:30.

The work I need to do will probably take an hour or so.

I'm OK with one final round of warmth, adjusting to the sudden cold with the early darkness at the same time has been a bit tough.

4

I dunno, the darkness is a bit of a sudden change but at this point I'm ready to go all in, warmth this late is confusing

Last chance to clean coats, pillows, blankets, doonas etc. before winter sets in. I'm aiming to do a search & destroy cleaning this weekend ready for Easter. Plus gardening if I still have the energy.

4

I'd be doing all of that if I had an outdoor drying space or an outdoor space at all. Might use the opportunity to instead do a cleanout of my languishing dried goods. Some ancient black lentils, red rice, other odds and ends that all need to be used up. I'm feeling ready to let go of a lot in the lead up to finishing this degree and moving out.

1

Goodnight all! I have laundered and tidied, worked, shopped, cooked dinner, tidied up afterwards and am officially retreating to my room for the alone time my introverted soul needs. Will most likely pretend I'm going to buy a house and check out property listings before falling asleep. 🥱😴

Back in melbs. Silly bus replacement. Wasn't as bad as expected but yea, 4 and a bit hours :(

I guess one good thing is there are far fewer people.

One thing that perplexes me is to get from geelong to wyndham vale station and vice versa by road, you have to meander through a shitload of back streets. Poorly thought out.

This time was paying very close attention to the synthetic lawns. EVERYWHERE! I'm really not sure why people do that (sorry to anyone here who has one). Just put some rocks down, few bigger feature rocks, maybe some cacti. Wouldn't be any more work, cheap as but would look a shitload nicer.

9
aussie.zone

The furry friend lived to see another day. However (!), the bottle was put outside apparently last night and the peanut butter was gone the next day.

There is something out there. I want to believe.

3

I've seen synthetic lawns all around here too

as someone who had wood tiles on a terrace and a neighbour who had fake lawn , don't do it

it will collect dust and soil and plant particles and seeds brought in on the wind and when it rains it will turn to mud and sprout weeds

also, I second the call for furry room mate update 🙂

4

It's just had its standard overnight restart, when it booted up this morning there was no colour. I assumed there was an update installed overnight which changed the default settings.

6

I was lucky, someone came today and the vet was able to squeeze Melbcat in during that time. Waiting on another culture and she’s getting some extra tlc.

Edit: The vet also suggested brushing her teeth. Uhh, wish me luck

8

There's a cafe I have been coming to every tuesday morning for months. I dont think I've ever seen the same staff more than a few weeks running.

8

I mean, it's an excellent cafe. The back of house staff are all the same. I've also done some digging, and as I suspected, the owners have a bunch of cafes around Melbourne - I think they probably share/rotate staff

3

Have developed a crave for food the house contains no ingredients for. Guess I shall put on pants today after all.

4

Oh, this barely involved any fish skills. I just defrosted the fillets and slid them in at the end and let it cook for 5 mins...

2

Cheap and nasty hoki fillets. I just chopped them into very rough pieces once defrosted. No idea if I was even cutting them the right way Then slid them in, right off the chopping board. Once in the curry you try not to stir it around too much as they flake into pieces pretty easily. Definitely tasting a lot better after sitting around a bit and soaking up the flavours

Went to bed relatively early, was awake around 530 (should have gotten up) but fell back asleep.

I got the new work laptop. This one is brand new and it's interesting how Dell has gone back to having normal ports again. The old laptop only has 3 USB-C ports, an SD card slot (full size) and a headphone jack. The new laptop has USB-A ports and a HDMI port, and a micro SD card slot.

6

HDMI is still pretty standard. Almost all Lenovos still have it. Our new L series laptops have almost all ports.

3

It's more these are both Dell Precisions. The old one is from around 2021 so it feels lie they were too ambitious on the USB-C everything front back then. Maybe they realised they're not Apple and workplaces aren't going to buy every employee dongles for everything

I don't think I've used a thumb drive or any physical storage device at work for like 5 years now

So instead of the other essential house chores (which I had barely any energy for already) I’ve now done two washes of one load of dishes complete with repetitively lifting a heavy jug, a complete clean and troubleshoot including moving the heavy machine.

And am now trying a third wash (for science) that I will still have to manually rinse - or potentially completely hand wash and rinse to actually get clean.

I’m going to be in pain and not able to do anything tomorrow. Some disability aid.

So fucking pissed

Bought for almost $400

Done everything to fix it

I can’t even leave a bad review because they’re no longer being sold on that site.

Call a service rep from the manufacturer to have a look. It should still be under warrantee

and hugs,

Sometimes doing things simply is easiest. Less fuss, fewer things to go wrong.

5

It was through a third party and so repairs and warranties are a wild goose chase. I’ve seen people complaining about it when looking it up.

And yes, it would be simpler to just wash dishes myself. That’s just not always possible and after past …incidents I’m selective about who I allow to help.

I hoped a machine would allow that autonomy but apparently not

Calibri is great for spreadsheets - I use it for excel shit. The numbers are beautiful. The font I haaaate is Bodoni.

The font on the old theme I was using on the website was some serif font where the lines were all the same thickness.

There was something about it when doing white text on black what was just too heavy and hard to read

::: spoiler Fretting Haven’t been able to sort out a lift for the appointments yet. I hope I can soon because the dentist will be taking a break and the next available would be in June.

I’m a bit worried about Melbcat because she has some signs of being unwell still and is chugging unusual amounts of water.

If need be I’ll book a home vet visit, it just means I need to clean up after letting things slide for almost a week. I’ve handballed the slimy dishes to Midea on the hottest setting. At the moment I don’t care if I have to redo them later. I just need clean enough. :::

5
aussie.zone

::: spoiler Dishwasher boogaloo Ok. Two runs through the dishwasher didn’t clean things well, most noticeably the cutlery.

So I’ve removed all dishes and the rack. Took out the bottom grill and filter, disassembled everything for a scrub with a child’s toothbrush and rinsed. Every single hole or outlet has been cleaned with a pipe cleaner. The outlet hose was removed and had water run through it to confirm it wasn’t blocked, then reattached and the metal ring retightened.

I’ve started it empty with no soap and watched water flow unimpeded out of all the holes. No loss of pressure. Light bubbling of the water. I have the hose in a cup to catch some for whisking after.

:::

And if this troubleshooting doesn’t work I’m tempted to put Midea out on her lazy arse. I haven’t really found this machine to be helpful. On top of the expense it’s mostly been a massive hassle and dragged chores out.

Added to that I’ve found cockroaches love the moisture and some are nesting behind it. It’s very easy to spill water while filling so you would have to move the heavy bulk and wipe the drips behind every time, and there’s not much you can do about having to leave the door open after use.

I seriously regret the purchase. It isn’t suiting my needs and I don’t like it.
