Got the phone back! I tried it this morning and it was on the move through Heidelberg. I thought it's obviously still on the bus! I tracked it through the suburbs until it was near my place and went out to the bus stop, caught that bus and found it wedged down between the seat and the wall! It was so exciting! Hey, I'm a middle aged mum, it's the most exciting thing I've done all year! The bus driver was kind enough to wait at the stop for me to search for it as well. Wonder how often they clean the buses tho..

There is no better detective than Mum on a mission! Well done!!!

I was chatting to someone the other day and they go "i'm no good with computers!" and I was like "huh. looks like you got an iphone there champ" and they go "oh yeah I can use an iphone just fine". Ok so its not that your no good with computers its that you dont want to be.

7
aussie.zone

The thing with computers is if you don't use them all the time then you forgot how to do shit.

I can show you how to do a crochet stitch and a week later ask you to do it again and you'd probably fail. Repetition is what's needed to remember stuff.

Wore heels for the first time in many forevers yesterday. Now have a confused mix of toes that ache and ones I can't feel properly. Hope this isn't cause for actual concern.

Wake was a very fine send off indeed. Don't think the cafe staff knew what hit them.

13

I wore stupidly high heels to my wedding many years ago and could not feel a couple of my toes for weeks. Feeling eventually returned and I still have all my toes, so I guess that means it's ok?

These probably don't even count as heels to many. I've never been a spike person, but being out of practice on even such low things seems to matter now.

Don’t you love when you have a banh mi place that every time you get one you’re just, like, “this is the best banh mi I’ve ever had”? Also love when you’re eating a banh mi and you get that moment when you’re staring down a chilli thinking it won’t be so bad but also know it’s going to punch your mouth up in the most delicious of ways?

I’m a happy girl.

Noooooo. Was meant to dump my bags by the door and head back out to buy groceries but somehow managed to lock myself out even though this unit door doesn't actually self-lock... actually idk how it worked because normally you can only lock it from the inside after the door is shut, and you can only lock it from the outside with a key...

Anyway, thank fuck my friend who lives down the road and has my spare keys is on his way back from a site out east, and crucially, has NOT yet left for a 4 day work trip to Halls Gap.

Sitting in the shopping centre across the road staying warm and enjoying supermarket dolmades. It's tempting to buy a bag of chips but I really have a protein craving more than anything else.

E: back in. No fish curry for me tonight. But I'll be sure as hell making it tomorrow. Old lil eggplants, fresh green beans, 4-year-old Baba's fish curry powder, oñons, bitta tomato paste and coconut milk.

boss: also I have just realised you go on leave next week so I want everything possible done right now. Even things that can wait. Even things that aren't anywhere near being implemented.
boss: I am going to send you every email under the conceivable fucking sun and demand you answer them instead of building my servers.
boss: I'm also gonna let a client scream at you about something I did
boss: and I'm gonna ask you if you've done something that I explicitly said I'd do three weeks ago
boss: and then I'm gonna send you another couple servers.
boss: I want these ready to ship to client tomorrow.

You’re not alone!

One time there was this awful smell in the kitchen that I just couldn’t find the source of. Searched everywhere, cleaned everything, still stinky. Thought maybe a rat had died under floor it was so bad.

It turned out to be a rotten potato at the back of the potato rack. Looked fine on top but was mush underneath. The smell was unholy, and it took months to get the residual smell out of the cupboard.

(I’m also not a filthy person, but did feel pretty stupid for missing something so obvious, lol)

One of my new favorite cooking techniques is to brown the chicken thigh first before slow cooking (as discovered doing the apricot chicken a few weeks back). Trying it with Japanese curry tonight. Recipe I read said 6 hours on low, but you wouldn't do the apple/potato/carrot that long would you? I was thinking 3-4 hours max.

9
aussie.zone

Monday night Japanese curry gang checking in!!!!

Never really done it in the slow cooker BUT, potato and carrot should be fine in the SW. Apples will probably lose their texture though.

4
aussie.zone

Granny Smith yes. Pink Lady, Gala, Yellow Delicious - no. Best to leave peel on though.

3

Yeah I'm doing granny smith. Might just give it 4 hours instead of the 6.

2
TinyBreakreply
aussie.zone

neither, first time. but given how good the apricot chicken came out I was tempted to give it a go.

2

I've been making japanese curry in a regular stove top pot. I just fry the meat separately to get a nice brown sear and throw it in with the veggies and some seasoning. Once the potatoes cook through, i chuck in the curry blocks.

Hasn't disappointed yet :)

2
aussie.zone

I've thrown a veg/lentil curry in the slow cooker in the morning on low, gone to work, and come home 8 or 9 hours later and it's fine. Veg doesn't need that long but it doesn't seem to do much harm.

4
aussie.zone

I only ever use high on my slow cooker then I'll turn it down to low if I need to. I'd put them all in together. If you're worried about the chicken drying out, dont worry it won't. Potato can take forever to cook particularly if you choose to cook it on low.

Low - approx 94°c

High - approx 149°c

Actually I'd leave the potato out and boil it separately and add it in later then you'll know it's cooked for sure.

2
TinyBreakreply
aussie.zone

I didnt factor in how cold the carrot and potato would be in reducing the temp so I've cranked it to high just before i put the veg in. I might just leave it on high and see how we go.

2

That's the way!

Brushed potato takes longer to cook than some other potatoes and of course it also depends on the size they're cut too and the age of the potato.

Little vid from yesterday from the pt. lonsdale lighthouse overlooking the pier / Rip. Shitty phone cam so excuse that (can mute it it's just wind / white noise). But it was wild.

I went on the pier and a biggish wave hit, made a fair few people freak out lol. Pier moved pretty violently so most of us got out of there pretty quickly.

The pumpkins are getting chunkier and more yellow. The golden nuggets are probably going to die before setting anything - the smallest slowest plant probably will. But I’m hoping that even if not ripe enough to eat, the jack be littles might at least get big enough for a nice photo piled in a dish.

(It’s hard to tell which are which over the progress shots but I’ve now started just taking pics of the biggest ones)

Green/underripe pumpkin can be eaten if cooked. Not as much pumpkiny flavour - more like apple but perfectly edible and def not poisonous.

Also, next weekend is going to be warm at 28 deg/29 deg so just may continue to ripen a bit more.

I've been thinking about the concept of 'Coworker music' ever since I watched a video on it. The idea is generic or bad music that coworkers listen to, never yourself of course.

I'll have music on at work and ask myself, 'Could this be considered coworker music?' I have a specific taste in music so I don't think it falls into generic coworker music, but when you get into subcategories of 'a type of guy' my music definitely falls into a 'type of coworker' subgenre.

6
aussie.zone

Co-worker music has a lot of layers to it.

Generally I would imagine Triple M and Fox/Nova music would fall into the category. Having worked with younger people that listen to Triple J (like I used to in my 20's and early 30s), pretty much all the current stuff played there would fall into the same category for me.

Personally I welcome a new way to judge people 😁

6
aussie.zone

Where I work it's the R&B Fridays radio station. Added bonus of doing my head in listening to something that calls itself R&B Fridays on every other day of the week 🤪

4

With flexible work, every day is potentially someone's Friday!!!

That would do my head in 100%. I like my own music, and thankfully can listen as I please without subjecting others to it.

3
tombruzzoreply

In the video I watched it was the most over produced mainstream pop like Harry Styles. Or they'll say something like, 'I was in a dark place and this song saved me. It's such a powerful song' and it's Imagine Dragons.

5

The reason she's so big is because your coworkers need to listen to something

4
aussie.zone

Ah okay that makes sense, like generic pop, popular with the majority music.

I have no clue what my music says about me, I tend to jump between Käärijä (finish rap/pop), Blind Guardian, and Paul Simon 😂

4
tombruzzoreply
aussie.zone

Sounds like you have too distinct a taste to be a coworker, but I'd like to check out Käärijä and see what I think. I need to listen to how well Finns pull off rap for myself.

I feel like coworker music is either the most generic music ever, or they listen to something incredibly niche but it sounds terrible.

2

I found Käärijä via Eurovision a few years ago 😂

https://youtu.be/l6rS8Dv5g-8

He has one EP and two albums, I love pretty much every song so I'm biased haha I'd say his genres are a mix of rap, pop, and a bit of metal.

EP: Peliä (Game on) Songs:

  • Peliä (Game on)
  • Puuta Heinää (nonsense - equivalent to "blahblahblah")
  • Klo23 (11pm)

Album: Fantastista

  • Fantastista
  • Yhta Vaila (almost there/so close)
  • ROCK ROCK
  • Paidaton riehuja (shirtless rampage)
  • Menestynyt yksilö (successful individual)
  • Kiertava sirkus (travelling circus this is my fav)
  • Hirttää kiinni (go haywire/crazy)

Album: People's Champion

  • Sex = Money
  • Bananas
  • Huhhahhei
  • Ready to Go
  • Takavoltti
  • Ruoska (whip)

These are just my absolute faves, I like all his songs lol

1
aussie.zone

I think that's the point. It's music you'd never listen to, but others would.

2

Everyone's taste in music counts. Too personal no to. I will judge (silently) certain musical choices, but would never criticize or poke fun.

2
Seagoon_reply
aussie.zone

is co-worker music like that music they play in stores or even like radio stations?

i would rather listen to the taste of one person than something that is meant to be inoffensive

2

I think it's that sort of music, but someone who genuinely listens to and enjoys that sort of stuff

2

This is a new concept to me. I think I get it, but technically my office plays 90% ABC Classic so I feel a bit exempt from this phenomenon. I do feel it when I've got in the work car after one of my colleagues has used it and set the dial to triple M tho.

A few more boxes have been packed and a shelving unit disassembled. There is a lot of gunk underneath it. I am going to learn from this and make sure the bottom shelf is high enough that I can clean under it. Right on the floor might have been fine for a solid shelf, but for a shelf with gaps for things to fall through it was not a good plan.

I've been playing a psychological thriller game called Karma: Dark World. Indie studio by the looks of it. I saw someone on YT had a play through and after the first like, 10min I just decided to buy the game with my birthday money 😅

It's really good! A couple of minor jumpscares, but it's a walking sim so no combat or anything, just unraveling the mystery. I'm hooked! Voice acting is amazing, beautiful retro-futuristic aesthetics, and the setting of 60s-80s East Germany where a 'thought bureau' called Leviathan Corporation runs everything.

I don't even know how to describe the story because there's so much mystery!
