Data mostly from Wikipedia. No warranty. For example, Slovak is arguably not an official language in the Czech Republic, just mentioned as “mutually intelligible” in certain laws but I followed Wikipedia and included it. Languages are grouped by the acronyms and sorted by their 2-letter codes. Those are based on their Wikipedia URL or my guess (sucks to be you, Montenegrin speakers, should have made your own Wikipedia). Countless Sámi languages are represented by North Sámi, the only one with a NATO Wikipedia article.

Changelog from v1 I originally posted on Reddit: Hungarian ÉASS → ÉASzSz (the "sz" stays together in acronyms because unlike most letter pairs it makes a single special sound).

I count 5 languages and 8 countries for OTAN and 3 languages and 5 countries for NATO, so if anyone is being entitled and not respecting the plurality is the anglophones.

True but the vast majority of NATO countries use "NATO" as the acronym despite their languages producing all the different ones I showed. Most of the ones in the picture I had to deduce from the official translation, which is kind of my point: English works for just about everyone but Fr*nce. And the Fr*nch could accept "NATO" as the acronym too if they weren't nationalist pricks.

Looking at your picture there is as many starting with O than N. And you seem to mix french language and France. And what about other acronisms like BIT, or the even the Croix Rouge ? So, tell us, why do you despise France so much?

You mean the French and the Anglo-Saxons?

Or, the NATO🔷OTAN logo is in Canadian

Noncredible theory: Whenever the French and the Brits can't agree on something, they ask Canada for mediation, as it's the only country in the world that has successfully appeased both people.

Look, any organization that has a name and acronym needs it in one language, and it's obviously going to be English in the world of 20^th^/21^st^ century North-Western diplomacy. Any more are a burden.

Wouldn't be so sure about the entire 21st century. There are some major efforts by the English speaking parts of the world in recent years to ruin that for themselves.

Be careful with the Fr🤮nce hate. Earlier today people forced me to say that I like fr🤮nch military planes.

Go Iceland. Simplify down from 4 letters to 2, and make one of those 2 letters a letter that doesn't even appear in the original.

7

It's actually Atlantshafsbandalagið in Icelandic and the research I did suggests that it's just 2 words in the compound word, hence the two letters.

After I made the first version of mine, another Redditor made their own, which does not respect compound words and results in just "A" for Icelandic.

8

The French has earned that right IMO. Doing their thing all by themselves I mean.
