This is the perfect weather to make health and fitness changes if you need to. Also getting rid of clutter. C'mon guys. You've got this!

TBH working as a bouncer, the 90s/00s BDSM crowd was probably my favourite for crowd behaviour. They didn't get messy intoxicated. They were big on respect and consent. If anyone behaved really badly, they were ostracised from the community.

Here's a tip. Spray the shower with a cleaning product. Clean the basin, bath and floor then get in the shower and clean that, then yourself. You've got this!

Just dropped off at the opshop and have a hard rubbish booked for the 7th. I also bought a desk chair. A touch more than I wanted to spend, but getting a purchase out of the way has its own value.

I know I keep saying tinyest's language is exploding. but hes now repeating almost all words said to him (or trying to anyway). He can now say "if you say so" and uses 2 words together pretty frequently. Sadly its "daddy, no" a lot of the time. But hes also become a lot less stingy with his hugs. And you best be prepared cause sometimes they are surprise hugs.

Once kids start talking, it's great!!! You're in for a good time.

A warning, kids have no filter. They say exactly what they see.

5

him being able to communicate needs (or wants) makes life so much easier!

5

One of my boys is a real talker. He's at the same stage saying things like "this is mine", "See you later", and "see you tomorrow". My girlfriend asked him what I do at work and he said "Helping old people" because that's what she says to him when I go do my tech support sessions.

Did a first aid course today. It was way more interesting then I expected (I am scarred by some terrible OH&S seminars). Also a bit confronting. And there's an app you can sign up to and opt-in to be notified if someone nearby is having a cardiac arrest. So you can hightail it there and help while the ambulance comes. On the one hand I'd love to do that but it also terrifies me

9

I was working at this joint and I had to study for my first aid renewal. The Minister came in with his grand kids to have a chat. This little boy about 4, grabbed the handle of the iron and went to pull it off the ironing board towards himself. Fuck me. I took the biggest step and managed to grab it in time. When they left someone said "You nearly had to use your first aid then. That was a real life scenario".

7
dumblederpreply
aussie.zone

What's the app? I saw one years ago but it never took off. Good concept, poor adoption.

4
aussie.zone

GoodSAM. I've not looked into it beyond being told about it today (Red Cross)

edit: looks like you sign up through the ambos and then use the app.

4
aussie.zone

I hadn't realised they had widened the criteria to anyone with first aid qualifications, when they started it they just had off duty paramedics and similar using it. It's a good idea, but it would definitely be confronting if it happened.

5
dumblederpreply

I've been in a few confronting first aid situations, I keep my head.

Looks like its a UK app, it's all about the NHS and UK quals.

i hate doing life saving first aid, I get real shook up after

once gave a 4 year old at a kids party a strong whack on the back as he was choking on a big gummy snake, he had blocked his windpipe. He was white, making no noise, making coughing movements, flailing a little. I jumped over chairs and tables to get to him when I saw what was happening. Other mothers at the party looked at me like i was an idiot.

one time getting aid for a stabbing victim lying on the street, other times was just helping with car accident type things

One of the pumpkins has aphids really severely and it’s starting to spread to the others…

I’ve sprayed soapy water and physically wiped as many as I could off but am a bit worried. Especially as ants are farming them.

8
aussie.zone

That’s a good idea. I’ve scrubbed off as much of the heavy infestation as I can but maybe there’s enough to get them to stick around for a bit

2

Oh damn, there was a praying mantis but it seems to be gone.

There was a ladybird sitting on the zucchini plant a week or two ago but I didn’t want to move it to the pumpkin plants I had just sprayed (even though organic) and it also hasn’t stuck around.

I bought some dill to help attract ladybirds back and be a sacrificial plant

Low, you sound like a teacher already - yep its a frustrating job, and that is a super sucky placement. But you care about those kids. Which is really important. And there are other schools out there. Yep, the education system sucks. So does the health system. So do most of the systems (yay, late stage capitalism). But people care, and if you can find a group of them that do it's awesome. There are schools with better cultures.

This also reminded me - I learned how to write essays in year 10. Not because it was on the curriculum, but I happened to have one ace english teacher and she taught us the principles one day. Decades later I am still grateful for that teacher, and use that info still, and my science/maths teacher who pushed me into trying when I wanted to just fail.

Edit: posted then worried that sounded lecturey - was trying to be empathetic and share in response....

I was a bit shocked recently when I found out a friends 12 year old could barely read, and that according the school and the parents the kid is educationally doing just fine. I mean what!? That’s nowhere near fine. How is this good for anyone? The kid has no learning difficulties according to the parents. They are getting him a tutor now. He seems to be of average brightness, so having good reading at 12 should be no problem. Everyone has let the kid down. School and parents both.

Dumbest thing I've done in a bit today.

I went to grab a snack from the lunchroom and ended up with a little biscuit and tried to eat it.

The texture strange and didn't break up like I thought so I chucked it in the bin.

Couple of hours later I look again at the box of snacks and see in light pen on the lid "Not Edible".

It now dawns on me that I tried to eat a biscuit made out of plasticine.

I was tired this morning :(

7

Boyo and I have decided that this time, yeah, it does need to be hardcore. We keep finding excuses to be lax and dance around the issues, so going all in together to be better supports.

2

It is so good to have an encouraging partner. My husband is my underpaid PT. But unless one of you has done this before with success, hardcore may not be the way to go.

I wish you all the best and I can't wait to hear your wins. ❤️

2

We've both done is separately before with great success - and both "fell off the wagon" due to completely reasonable circumstances, so I have a good feeling about this!

Underpaid PT, I love it. I'm sure he's paid in love and karaoke! Thanks for your support, CEO!

2

That's the spirit! I love this energy! Go get 'em girl!

Is there a lemmy suggestions box? I like to be able to hide users without blocking them and I'd like to be able to disable comment replys. God dam making some comments out of the instance and I get a bunch of updates from aggressive nerds that I really don't care for. I tended to disable comments on reddit as soon as I'd commented due to notification avoidance.

Hiding feels more like I'm not interested in their content, blocking is for people I don't like. Sometimes when dealing with my own struggles I can do without hearing about someone else's. Even just being able to have their posts auto collapsed.

aldis got a camping sale coming up. If any of you were thinking "man, I'd love to try camping but dont have the gear" this is a pretty good entry point. Kmart is even cheaper (but you get what you pay for there).

6

ooh thank you! I need to build up my own gear now I'm not with my ex (who was a long time camper and generally stocked up)

5

Food market was bountiful today. I've got a rolled chicken roast for dinner, and a bag of brussels sprouts to go with it. A random cheese turned out to be cheddar flavoured with salt and vinegar, so I'll have to be a bit judicious in how I use that. I also have tons of fruit of all varieties.

Steven Wilson released a new album recently and I'm digging it. His last few albums had more of an attempted pop spin on them whereas this one is two songs that go for around 20 minutes each. I don't think we'll get another Hand. Cannot. Erase. but it's good to see a turn in that direction again.

Yeah, there's no beating the first few solo albums (and all of PT).
I think the only thing that has made me appreciate To The Bone more is the absolute garbage that came after.

So I have a choice to make about this friday that I need to make today to ask for leave.

Friday's are usually a light work day 9 out 10 times.

Should I take it off this week or stick it out and just spend the day at work?

5

If you really need a break, take the day off. If you have shit to do, take the day off. If you haven't had a day off for a while, take the day off.

Otherwise go in and plan your next day off.

6

I don't want to go to bed but I'm tired. Maybe a nanna nap will work.

Edit: Too risky. May as well go to bed.

500g lean mince (lamb or chicken works well-beef/pork can be a bit too fatty and go rancid), 300g rolled oats or oatmeal, 1 375g jar peanut butter, 1 tablespoon salt and 1 tablespoon kelp powder (optional). Mix well, and chill in the fridge for 1 hour. Dough will become quite squishy then firm up as it chills. If its too squishy after chilling, mix in more oats. Form into thumblike logs or roll out to 1/2 cm thick and cut bikkie shapes of your choice. Gingerbread men work well, but any shape that's not too pointy will do. I used to make deep indents to make it easier to break into pieces. Bake at about 150 degrees C on a parchment lined tray for about 1 hour until thoroughly dried out and crunchy. Might take longer depending on how mushy the mince is, and logs take a bit longer. Logs should snap when bent not go bendy. Store in an airtight tin out of the fridge for up to 2 weeks if kept dry and cool. This mixture makes a couple of dozen bikkies or a dozen or so logs. Can be re-baked in a low oven if they go limp with storage.

4
aussie.zone

Forgot to mention - the absolute best mince is kangaroo. Way back when this was super cheap but now is costly as venison (which also works well but I'm not wasting venison on the dog). Also you may get a crispy frill of melted peanut butter around each bikkie when baking - just snap this off and give to the dog as a special treat. There's nothing in this recipie that's harmful to humans so if the kids get into them that's no cause for worry.

4

Given how little I need I might just get one of those little snap tray roo mince "mice" . Thanks

1

I can't cook an upvote. Doggo needs biscuits since his human declines other recompense.

I just went outside and someone was smoking a big fat smelly joint.

I hate how expensive it is. Fuck I need a job so I can sleep again.

4
dumblederpreply
aussie.zone

Uhh, you sure it's not the six hour nap? More exercise will help your sleep too. It usually only takes me a week to shake the no pot insomnia.

5

Haha yes the 6 hour nap had a lot to do with it! I mean just my sleep rhythm in general. I use medical for cptsd symptoms, mainly night-terrors and subsequent insomnia. It stops me from waking up during the bad dreams/terrors, meaning I'm not avoiding sleep, and subsequently falling asleep during the day.

I do need to exercise more in general anyway, which I'm sure would help significantly!

5

Cptsd is a different story from regular no weed insomnia. Most of my friends buy off market as its still cheaper than prescribed.

4

Again with the conking out and waking for meds time then napping some more 🥱

This fatigue is killing me. Needing lifts to do anything.
