Let them know they have the *choice*

Teach girls it's okay to not want kids. Or even like them.
That they can be functional people without being a mother.
That deciding into their 30s they want kids isnt bad and they're not "too old."
Teach girls that they don't have to sell their youth to kids.
Because motherhood isn't for everyone. And we need to stop acting like it is.

Agree with it all, except 30s is late to have kids. Maybe not too late, but late.

Again since I agree with all of it, I agree with the statement that 30 isn’t too late to have kids as well.

Depends where you live. I would guess the average age in my peer group where I am in NYC is 30-something. You need to be far into your career to be able to afford children without it being even more of a struggle.

35 is the medical limit for when it becomes a geriatric pregnancy, but the risks are still quite low if you’re healthy until 40.

Even just the term "geriatric pregnancy" is sexist nonsense, we never even consider the age of the sperm contribution, let alone dub the person who made it "geriatric" in their 30's, or even run any extra tests or anything despite there being a ton of research in to the many potential risks of being conceived by old sperm.
All pregnancy is risky and all should be treated equally.

This is the stupidest take. Geriatric is a medical term. It’s not referring to intercourse so why would the act from either partner be referred to as geriatric? It just means they need to take special precautions because the age of the person impacts whatever medical condition, in this case pregnancy, in a potentially negative way. Not everything is a patriarchal conspiracy to devalue.

Editing to add that your original post is 100% correct though and is definitely a change our society needs.

Rigjt, it's pure coincidence that men don't get called it until they're in their 70s or 80s despite how relevant (more tham the egg contributor) their age is to a pregnancy..
Feel free to continue to buy in to the systemic sexism in the medical world, someplace else.

And yet, women are still geriatric at 30
You're not making the point you think you are

-1

35, if it makes you feel better. Statistically, older sperm has a much less significant impact than older eggs/uterus. I’m not sure if they have data on whether older eggs implanted in a younger surrogate have the same effects.

I’m not saying calling it an advanced age pregnancy is great, but the science doesn’t seem to be lying.

lol, the term is used situationally. Women aren’t geriatric when in their 30’s. The PREGNANCY is geriatric. God you're daft. People are not geriatric, their conditions are and each one is unique.

You should post sources because you are completely full of shit lol

4

You should do your own research if you really give a fuck lol

(you clearly don't which is why I won't be wasting my time doing it for you)

Fantastic, shame those who need to watch it won't (or will just do more deflecting because they're uncomfortable having their biases challenged)

I just tend to block the extra reddity posters. I get having a disagreements, but I feel we should have left the ad hominem behind.

Me ad hominem, or them?
Either way, I made this space specifically so I could easily be rid of bigots trolls and such, the ban hammer is doing its part!

Mostly certain posters within this thread. "Never let facts get in the way of a good narrative" or other shit that basically make the person they're arguing with seem unhinged. At that point it just becomes an argument based on anger rather than establishing facts.

You do realize that medical issues skyrocket in a woman’s 30s, right? Like scientifically it is becoming late to become pregnant.

That’s not sexism that is the unfortunate truth of biology and pretending it isn’t a problem is a bigger problem than it being talked about openly.

kbin.social

Feel free to read my other comment which you conveniently ignored for an explanation why it is.
(also proving the research is as sexist as the field it was conducted in doesn't make the point you think it makes lol)

It isn’t. Do you not understand that male fertility drops but in general never goes to 0? Females literally stop being able to produce a baby. Again, biological process not sexism.

Male age for sperm is insignificant compared to a woman’s age, there might be some complications that arise from it but they are nothing compared to a woman of equal age.

The term “geriatric” just means “older than the intended age” not whatever you think it means, which is probably “old person”. This is scientific/medical speak not layman terms. You’re getting upset at the medical institution for telling it like it is, when women get older they 1) stop having the ability to have kids and 2) start introducing lots of complications to pregnancies.

As for the rest of the post most people are going to agree, a woman’s life isn’t just about having kids. No one should feel like they have to or even want to.

But do not lump that line of thinking into the same as medical issues.
