I always order small, medium or large, and not once met a barista who made a comment about it.

One time i said medium and they said "do you mean <their medium word>" and i said "is that medium" and they said "yes" and i said "then yes"

Don't confuse actual Italian for the arbitrary definitions Starbucks assigned when they appropriated the terms to sell their overpriced burnt coffee.

Tall stands for 12oz? Interesting. English "tall" sounds like the Norwegian and Swedish number 12, written "Tolv" (with silent "v").

This is coincidence - the two are unrelated. "Tolv" is cognate with English "twelve", and English "tall" is cognate with Swedish tal, Bokmål "tall"
