Lemmy at a glance

Hi 🙋,

you might be in search for an reddit alternative and don’t get the Lemmy thing, yet. Lemme help you out, shortly.

  1. Lemmy lets you build communities just like you are used to.
  2. You need an account to participate. I doesn’t matter on which server you register.
    1. https://lemmy.world → generic
    2. https://feddit.org → German/English community
    3. List of other servers
  3. Lemmy servers (instances) host communities and can be interconnected.
    1. @[email protected] can follow local or remote communities
  4. Following a community is called subscribing, you’ll find a subscribe button when browsing communities.
  5. Subscribing will keep you noted on new posts.
  6. Mobile clients can make the experience more fluffy
    1. Voyager
    2. Arctic (iOS)
    3. List of other clients

Our community is called ![email protected] but there are several other communities out there. Make sure to watch out for them, e.g. by browsing an instance's local communities.

Feel free to link this post, when onboarding people to this community.

Hey, thanks. The other communities might also fit perfectly in a Where to start-post or even in the sidebar.

When you look at a community in a browser, the sidebar should show subscribe.

It depends on which client your using - in the web browser it's on the right sidebar, but in mobile apps like Voyager its usually a little + icon near the community name.
