This is my favourite embroidery piece (with hand crocheted edging) that my mother did.

She's always been more interested in doing the crochet than the embroidery, so there are lots of doilies and things in the cupboard.

That's really really nice, so many different embroidery stitches, many of them traditional dating back to the Elizabethan Era.

Just want to add that this is a very good piece and worth framing. It's a good example of women's art and culture. Your mum had a good sense of history and culture. 🙂

( I'm that nerd who goes to the V&A and buys the books on historic embroidery )

It would be the different stitches that attracted her to the design - she's always hated doing lots of satin stitch and preferred using different fill stitches.

4

those fill stitches are what drew my eye , and the circles that frame each design like a late medieval miniature

3

Embroidery is a nice hobby - it is very meditative. This sort of embroidery takes a fair bit of practice to get right because you have to judge the position of the needle and size of stitches evenly, but things like cross stitch are usually done on fabric with evenly spaced holes to guide you. It is not too complicated but gives you something to do with your hands, and it gives you just enough to do with your conscious brain that you don't get bored without taking up all your attention, so most of your brain has space to process things and do some quality sub-conscious thinking.

Over at the p's.. so naturally means tech support. Jeez they panic.

It's sort of ironic. Back in the day as kids they'd slightly try and limit our screen time (pre smart phones)... talkin' N64 days.. confiscating that shit mid lylat wars / waveracer / 1080 binges like despotic barbarians. Now they beg to keep all their shit working and can't function without their devices. I'd love to see another carrington event.

E: ooh a downvote. Someone didn't do a barrel roll. Just realised if you type 'do a barrel roll' in chrome it does one. lol.

13

Lol I see the same with my mother who was draconian about limiting use of the PC (also pre smartphones - but no consoles at home) and is now mindlessly addicted to puzzle games on her phone. so bad she would sometimes text me when in the same house rather than come talk to me

4

Well. I've been playing video games and napping most of the day. Time for guitar I guess?

Double roll!

Good luck! It will be good either way, adhd or something else, they will be able to give you guidance. Be completely honest even if you think somethings embarrassing, because it will help greatly in getting it right.

Cheers party animals 🍺

All good :)

I have been taking a sleeping pill since I started the adhd meds, but the other ones I could try have horrible side effects.

I think I'll go to a sleep clinic.

What a coincidence, they trying to screw you over and might not have paid in the end.

If that scared them they knew they were in the wrong.

Scumbags.

It's just over 1/3rd of the company that was absorbed.

It's the particular roles that have been vacated that's the real issue.

They no longer have a cybersecurity team, 1 person left in accounts, half a service desk missing.

It's chaos.

My kid did a very important biology test today. We all put in a bet and will be eagerly anticipating results.

Me: 96%

The man: 85%

The kid: 75%

The dog: N/A

10

Dog wins. Kiddo forgot to put their name on the test (we've all been there).

When my dog was old and loosing appetite, I would boils some chicken thighs and then shred it up in the broth, he seemed to like it. Chicken soup basically.

Booze, card games and swearing? Pirates? Nah just an average Friday night at my joint.

Autumn. About time too. I love this weather too - cool crisp nights and glorious sunny days is my jam. Soon be time to lift & replant the spring bulbs.

9

Where can I go in Vic where it's like this all the time? I used to love summer but now I get so itchy. Hot sweaty weather, itchy. Spring, itchy. Gah!

oooof friends are having a very vicious very public breakup / divorce all over facebook and I'm torn between just muting the pair, or replying to a public spats going "Jesus christ" until they both block me.

the worst bloody part is they're all "The kids don't know the kids don't know" and fucken hell, the kids absolutely do know and the pair of absolute jackasses need to pull their heads out of their arses and act like parents, not teenagers.

Today I am looking at removalists. I have an end leave date 4 weeks from now. I need some special boxes too. Not too difficult to pack as I have done all the sorting already. 🙂

It will be a bit spenny but worth it because ...beeeeach ⛱️🩴🌊😎

I've been organising moving house. I totes forgot Feb has 28 days and thought I had an extra 3 days to do things. I have a desk calendar I look at everyday. 😐

I put on Iron Man the other day and AC/DCs Back in Black comes on and my daughter goes "I like this music. Is it old people music?" I swear my back started aching as soon as those words left her mouth.

Was quite tired yesterday, went to bed earlier than normal, woke up at about 4 for a tinkle, fell back asleep until 6...decided to fall back sleep again (day off today) and holy shit the next 90 minutes was the deepest sleep I've had in a loooong time.

Wife's alarm went off, she had a shower, had the curtains opened and I did not budge until she actually woke me up.

Feel absolutely refreshed too.

My Nana used to do "the fancy work" as she called it. Anyway I found this. She would've crocheted the edges and all. Oh the patience she had.

::: spoiler spoiler :::

Also found a shit load of birthday candles.

8

I can tell this one was probably whipped up in weekend because I've seen a lot of her work. Probably just something to put in my mother's glory box.

The most impressive was a huge full sized blue willow table cloth complete with 8 napkins all crocheted around the edges of course.

Ps. I found more fancy work.

2
aussie.zone

I've got some of these from my grandma and mother. What to do with them though? My modern life is too messy for such delicate items to be used in the house anywhere (don't ask me how I know).

4
aussie.zone

They're called supper cloths and you pack them away only to find them 20 years later, admire them, then pack them away for another 20 years.

Stand up paddle board acquired - just a cheap inflatable one that had good reviews. Nabbed one for the boyo as well. Sadly too windy to test 'em today, but I've always wanted it and now I have it.

kings? Im kinda keen to get in on one for stuff like down the prom.

4

Ah, it's been a good long while since I've woken up to the dance of the UTI fairies at 2 in the morning. Urrrrgh. Definitely didn't drink enough water the last two days.

Had a sachet of Ural but this doesn't feel like one I can flush out myself so thank goodness a dr is available at my usual practice tomorrow. Urrrrrrrrrrgh

going to check out a campervan tomorrow. Mrs isnt keen, but still wants to have a look at it. not sure if we're just Tyre kicking, or if shes serious. Getting a straight answer out of her is tough.

I've been really enjoying green tea lately. I always loved it with yum cha but never had it on its own. Haven't had coffee in a week and I can't remember the last time I had a cappuccino. I think I've found my latest fad.

8
aussie.zone

My latest fad is definitely phó. Having it for third breakfast this week now. Had it more times in the last two months than I think I have in the previous ten years combined

5
aussie.zone

McIvers sells a lovely Australian grown green tea, if you’re interested?

Plus some nice native herbal blends that include the green as a base

4

I've had a week of late nights but I hope I can fix that soon. I think I've been holding up alright but I don't recommend it.

I remembered to bring the growler to work and it's in the fridge pre-cooling before going to the brewery. I feel like I've earned it this week.

8
aussie.zone

I’ve had beer and bulgogi. Now for that other great pleasure - bedtime

Me singing to the cat: "Alfie do ya want some wine? Ooh, no, you can't have it! Boyo do ya want some wine? You can have Alfie's! Alfie do ya want some wine? No cause you're a kitten."

... I haven't even had any wine yet.

8
aussie.zone

I talk to my cat in a Spanish accent cause somehow it's appropriate .

Also....get on the wine. Good for what ails ya

5

I used to talk to the dog in a French accent. Totally made sense.

Our old dog ,(RIP) had a lisp and a deep voice, despite being tiny.

Terrible sleep but this morning is feeling kinda autumnal so it’s put me in a good mood. Leaves are already starting to change too.

Friday! At my secondary work site.

All quiet here today for the moment, there are some big wigs here today so I'm going to try my best to stay out o their way though one is camped in the staff room, that's going to be inconvenient for making coffee.

Hopefully not much to do today but at the same time there's only so much I can do to keep myself occupied.

Update address databases. That's a good makework/look busy go to. Has stood me in good stead over many many years. It always looks impressive if you start at the END of the alphabet - to casual inspection it looks like you've made a lot of progress. The tail end of the alphabet is usually the last one to be done so usually needs quite a lot of love too.

7

Good call, actually forgot to do some maintenance on the database at some point.

Well that's a bummer. Wiring is fried in a very weird way so no bueno getting dishwasher repaired 😞 have to wait for them to send the report to the manufacturer who will only then inform me if I get a replacement or refund. Which will be Tuesday at the earliest. At least I was lucky enough to get the tech in today... Looks like handwashing is on the cards for this weekend 😭

If I was handy with electronics at all I'd hope for a refund and then try to fix the electronics myself, but I barely have enough brain power to struggle through the days so I'll just wait.

Plus side is today is Severance and The Pitt release day 🥳 And I have got my antibiotics after the dr was late by half an hour, and my laundry is all done. I might get some soup from the shops because I cbf cooking today. though kimchi fried rice is definitely on the cards for the weekend.

Sometimes it's nice to be "officially" sick because that lets me finally relax my nervous system. That's kinda sad too but anyway

6
Taleyareply
aussie.zone

Give 'em some pushback. If it's a wiring fault, then your relationship is with the retailer, they sold you something that was defective. They can take it up with the manufacturer themselves and leave you out of it.

4

I'll wait to see what they say after they get the report from the repair tech. You bet if they refuse a refund/replacement, or the replacement takes an ass amount of time, I'll be kicking up a fuss. Kind of hoping for a refund so I can just buy something else off Appliances Online asap and have them take away this unit

4
Duenanreply
aussie.zone

I agree with Taleya, should be up to the retailer with an instant refund or return no questions asked in this case.

I hope that you didn't have to pay for someone to come out to look at the dishwasher.

4

Luckily no I didn't pay. Though they certainly tried to list all kinds of conditions under which I would have to pay, I'm pretty sure this was a straight up defect.

I went directly to the manufacturer not via the retailer as it would've taken extra time and steps, and I figured I'd get a similar outcome anyway. I did call the retailer and they said they would've done the same thing as me (contact the manufacturer) except there would've been that extra layer of forms and waiting.

Watching the latest episode of Severance right now and...

::: spoiler live ramblings, big spoilers OMG SEXY YOUNG MARK OMG IT'S ADAM SCOTT IN FULL HOTNESS OMGGGGG 🥵 🥵🥵🥵🥵

GEMMA HAS AN OUTIE?!?!!!?

WHAT IS THIS DENTIST TORTURE WHAAAAT

DEVON IS SO KICKASS

I LOVE PRE-SEVERANCE MARK SO MUCH 😭

HOW MANY LAYERS OF SEVERED WORKERS ARE THERE WTF

I JUST WANT TO REITERATE: ADAM HOTT CAN ABSOLUTELY GET IT

OH MY GOD IT'S REAL GEMMA WHO REMEMBERS MARK, OH FUCK OH FUCK

WHAT THE FUCK HOW DID THE LUMON FERTILITY CENTRE GET INVOLVED

WAIT WHAT IT'S THE FIGHTING CARD, THAT'S ACTUALLY - WHAAAAT

HOW DEEP DOES THIS GOOOOOO

ARE THERE MULTIPLE INNIES AND THEY'RE ALL BEING TORTURED OH JESUS

WHAT NEW DEPTHS OF DEPRAVITY IS LUMON REACHING

OH GOD THIS IS FAR MORE DARK AND DEPRESSING THAN I THOUGHT

THIS REALLY PUTS A NEW SPIN ON EVERYTHING, I'M TERRIFIED, ALSO HOW ARE THERE ONLY 3 EPISODES LEFT AFTER THIS :::

The people who reviewed all ten episodes said that this and episode 4 were standouts of the season. Frankly this one is infinitely more impactful, this is like the intensity of the episode 3 ending except for like, the whole episode. I do think the whole show has just been turned around completely on its head... not so much the premise (that was beautifully and cruelly reinforced this episode which was great as I felt it was losing its way on that front), but certainly the machinations of exactly what the fuck is going on... Imma need to process this one

6

::: spoiler spoiler Big ep. Part way through I was thinking that maybe lumon was working on a cure for depression and the data packets the innies work on are the bad thoughts of their outties.... But then that theory falls apart when you realise they're going there for their working day so idk.

Then cliffhanger Gemma has been kidnapped this whole time? Didn't volunteer? Why? What are they doing with her in there. Ugh. No idea what is happening but it's crazy :::

And in today’s episode of stupid things I’ve done today…

I went to wash the dishes after dinner, ran the water and poured the dishwashing detergent as usual.

I forgot to plug the sink in…

Yep, what a dumb thing I did once again.

Haven’t done that yet but have done making a coffee and only put the sugar in and forgot the coffee and filled it up with water.

2

I've done that too - and served it to guests before I realised. Mega embarrassment.

EDIT: the nice thing about wine is you don't have to remember to put the milk/sugar/coffee in.

Been watching Lattouf V ABC and surprised today how on the back foot the ABC is with their closing arguments. Lots of awkward, grasping answers given by their defence team to questions posed by the judge.

5

There's a concurrent scandal at the BBC , they used officials and family of officials in interviews while pretending they were everyday people and also faked translations to make the interviewee more acceptable and to lie about events and motivations for actions.

4

I'm generally a big ABC fan, but I'm appalled both that this happened, and that they've spent so much public money trying to defend something that's clearly indefensible.

Finished the two hardcore antibiotics and the tooth still hurts, but I’m told that they don’t want to give me more and even the closer appt found is 2 weeks away. Great. I just hope it isn’t an infection and/or doesn’t spread.

Generally they're quick on accepting patients , just make it out it be an emergency.

All the best. Tooth pain is shite and you deserve better.
