Road improvements
I have eaten whole meals (20+ minute) at Doc Browns in the amount of time pedestrians have spent trying to cross this section of Smokey Park Hwy. It's a hell-hole nightmare for cyclists and pedestrians with no safe place to travel. What gives, Asheville? There's no consistent sidewalks, no break down lane, no cement medians, no cross walks, no trees...
I heard they'll be doing some mysterious road work on the nearby exit 44 soon? Here's my idea: add another Candler exit further down Hwy 40, and make Smokey Park Hwy 2 lanes instead of 5. I promise people's helter-skelter driving will tone down if they can't careen out of a parking lot and drive down the middle turning lane for miles until deciding to finally merge.
What do y'all think? How would you improve this terrible road?
Really, have you all seen the guy in the electric wheelchair the last few days who is traveling by Doc Browns on Smoky Park? For fuck's sake, he is going to die on that road. He has full rights to be there, and I sure don't see another option... How do we get a sidewalk installed? Even better, now that they're making a new exit off 40, how do we get a full road diet, including trees and bike lanes?
