Typical, I've just spent several hours over the last few days downloading everything manually 😫

Same here lol, glad to see it's easier for everyone else now though!

Just a warning the Download and transfer via USB will no longer be an option from 26th of Feb according to Amazon UI.

I guess that tool helps with this transition

Definitely. My response was probably a little glib.

Tools like this, that help people escape locked down systems are worth their weight in gold.

I know what you mean. But saying a (weightless) software is worth their weight in gold made me chuckle.

Wait does that too remove drm or should I keep using calibre for that?

Doesn't Kobo use Adobe DRM? I don't see how that's much better than Kindle.

I have a bunch of books from both stores, and Google too. The downloading and DRM removal process was about the same for all of them.

They’re allegedly working with bookshop.org so at least you’ll be able to support a local bookstore.

Did this for my dad a year ago, got him a Boox and set up calibre. Between libraries and drm free sources Ive got him almost completely off of amazon.

Boox is the best, I've got to read using the app I want (moon reader), got to install whatever news apps I want

Yeah...I did a lot a research before landing on Boox, and it 100% is the best. Pricey tho.

3

So, as I understand it, e-ink screens are all made by the same company and sold to the various ereader companies. As such, they are basically comparable. At least this was the case two years ago when I was looking into it.

How is screen clarity? Which model did you get? Did you use a kindle prior for comparison?

2

There's only a few screen manufacturers so you probably can find which devices has the same exact screen. It's had more resolution than my aging eyes can notice.

I've used a Barnes and Noble thing before, and my boox is much faster - obviously since it's 2 newer generations. I don't buy anything from Amazon. It's more convenience than anything, they're a rip off in Australia.

2

Boox has official support to play store, while Barnes and Noble you need to search on Internet . I buy books at Kobo, it's my favorite store now. It's the only store that I can find decent amount of titles not in English. Do they have an e reader?

1

How's the battery life? I have the first gen and it keep crashing and battery drained down so fast.

1

Well, it doesn't find my books. :(

Correction, got it to work.

Next step, unscrambling the books.

Edit: And, done. (there weren't that many books, 460 in total).

You reached the end
