I started a new account, on a new instance, and the very first notification I got was for a spam message from that 'fediverse chick' person. It really made that "it's like email" connection feel complete.
I dunno, my first was at the beginning and then one like two weeks after people complained. The fact that there is only one account that people have talked about is a pretty good sign.
The great thing about DM spam on Lemmy is it's hard to defend against. They start spamming them out, and only the targetted users can see it. When someone eventually reports it, they get banned, but banning them doesn't remove the DMs already sent 🙁
