It's the first day of the Windy month, and also, BVWSC!
@[email protected]'s Dragonsbeard is an intriguing scent: it reminded me somewhat of Telegrama, by Imaginary Authors – which must be the vanilla, because otherwise, there doesn't seem any scent in common. It is slightly spicy and woody, and I like it!
This time, after my problems last time, I was prudent enough to use a synthetic brush, and it was easy to lather (even though it drowned it slightly). Improvements!
Have a good evening!
Edit: I fat-fingered the soap – obviously it was Dragonsbeard
February's BVWSC sample generously came courtesy of @[email protected], who has selected some top tier soaps for us to try. This month's selection is no different. Dragonsbeard is a warm, woody exploration of oud, and I thoroughly enjoyed the shave.

For this month's meeting of the Buena Vista Wetshaving Club we're shaving with Dragonsbeard from ETHOS.
Artisan notes:
It combines Authentic Agarwood Oil and Oud Resin with essential oils of East Indian Sandalwood, Amber, Tonka Bean Butter, Madagascar Vanilla Bean Infusion Oil, and White Rose Absolute.
I wouldn't call this a gourmand, as the oud was front and center to my nose. I did pick up on a little spiciness and vanilla, and maybe a hint of rose. It's a very complex scent that I thoroughly enjoyed. The base also gave an excellent lather without too much effort.

Can't believe I did a June to end of August run with this soap back in 22 as an unscented lather games to AA self challenge.
Unscented soaps suck, but the performance is good. By far the best UK artisan in my book. Also looking how little is left it's probably going to be my next kill attempt.
Post-Shave: OAM oli del benessere toner; Alterra men natural ASB
-> 2-pass head shave, very smooth sailing all around.
Dragonsbeard is rather interesting. Warm oud meets florals is what my nose thought of it at first. However, this didn't change much once it was lathered. I was really grateful that it's not one of the very animalistic/barnyard ouds and the overall scent strength wasn't very high - I suppose this is good for some use cases. Judging by the high price point of Ethos though (over here at least), this wouldn't be a soap high on my buy list. However, I am really grateful for the opportunity to try it! Thanks gcgallant for the sample.
Btw, I kinda had trouble to get the lather right. First pass was very sloppy and wet, the second - after some new loading and starting from scratch - much better. The base has good glide and doesn't irritate my skin, so bonus point for that. Not as great as a mutton tallow base or something by WK, B+M or ZM, but perfectly serviceable.
Now it's time for bed for me since I have another early shift tomorrow. Last one this week though, on the weekend it's late shifts!
Day 19 of Atlas Shaves 2 – Electric Boogaloo Wed 19 Feb 2025
Brush: Zenith 506B MB (27 mm × 51 mm Manchurian badger)
Razor: Weck Sextoblade Med Prep
Blade: Kismet Rostfrei, Polymer beschichtet
Lather: Declaration Grooming – Scrooge
Post Shave: Brut – Oceans
Fragrance: Stirling Soap Co. – Island Man
LatherBot really has a thing for rare and extinct soap brands this month. I don't have any Dapper Dragon soap. Luckily, Naranja with its single blood orange note gives me a number of options.
I went with Scrooge, which has notes of oak, cognac, blood orange, bitters, sandalwood, sea salt, clove, nutmeg, rum for two points.
I bought Brut Oceans following u/frankieIVfingers' suggestion and it's a fun pickup. It's fresh and aquatic, diametrically opposed to the sharp green and woody original in initial feel, yet it still reminds me of it with aromatic and woody background notes. When I'm free of AS2EB-related duties, I'll have to combine l try and combine this with BaM Waves.
A nice FLS to start the day before a BVWSC SLS later today.
Post Shave: Talent Soap Factory - Wallflower Aftershave splash
Fragrance: Stirling - Stirling One EdT
Back with a second shave to try shifting to evening shaves. New job and commute have made it much more difficult to find time to run, so I'm going to start trying to fit it in before I need to leave. I'm not much of a morning person, so we'll see how it goes.
I used up the rest of my Dragonsbeard smush for this shave. It's a great scent and a very well-performing soap. I'd be interested in trying more ETHOS soaps in the future.
This is my first time using an Ethos soap, and I'm impressed! I loaded the entire smush, so I was not wanting for lather. I've seen this soap base used a lot on YouTube, and now I know why people are fans. I don't know anything about the artisan, but I do know the price is slightly outside of my comfort zone. It seems like you get what you pay for, though.
The scent is pleasant and just interesting enough to catch my attention. It seems like a crowd pleaser without being too generic, if that makes sense.

I'm a dolt and forgot to use my BVWSC soap, so I will pay penance and enjoy a Luxury Shave later this evening. Looking forward to it!

Unscientific den ranking so far
Man idk if I have the discipline to kill a tub of unscented soap
Nope, couldn't do it

Buena Vista Wetshaving Social Club - Wed Feb 19
Dragonsbead is a nice warm and dark scent. Woody and a bit sweet, with deep oud. Thank you @[email protected] for the smush!
The scent reminds me of something, but I can't put my finger on it right now. This is going to drive me nuts 😅
Good second luxury shave, good Buena Vista Wetshaving Social Club February meeting, good evening.
Telegrama?
nah, aside from vanilla, there doesn’t seem any scent in common 😉
