Is there a script that can change my default sort/source (e.g. from Active/Local to Hot/Subscribed)?
It's a little annoying to keep having to change from "Local" to "Subscribed".

You can set the default sort in your settings.
There are some apps that allow you to sorry the comments - and some of those work better than others. Caveat:. I have only used Lemmy on mobile apps, but i believe a number of those are also available for desktop.
In a lemmy instance (unsure about kbin) you can set that in your user settings
