Quartidi 24 Pluviôse an 233 de la Révolution, jour de Trainasse

I don't really know why, but this razor somehow fits me. It is on the lighter side, but not small. And it is shiny 😍

Have a good evening!

I've been bidding on a few coq et renards offert the last year or so, but never any luck. They seem nice

Wednesday, February 12, 2025: Atlas Shaves 2 - Day 12

  • Brush: Chisel & Hound "Spice Lily" - TurnNShave Tuxedo 26mm synthetic
  • Razor: GEM - MMOC (first gen, 1930-1932)
  • Blade: Personna - GEM PTFE (4)

  • Post Shave: Stirling - Arkadia Aftershave splash
  • Post Shave: Stirling - Glacial Unscented Aftershave balm
  • Fragrance: Stirling - Arkadia EdT

Finally, on day 12, our robot overlord pulls a soap I can match! LGC is a great scent that is a pleasure to shave with, and BaM always gives me an excellent lather.

This was also my first shave with this knot after moving it to a new handle. I lofted it a bit lower, which feels like an improvement. I also used stainless steel washers as spacers this time. The added extra weight feels quite nice.

Nocturne smelled so good today.

Accidentally on theme for Atlas Shaves if I weren't out!

A little "fediverse drama" I thought I'd share -- one of the three instances in the "tankie triad", hexbear.net (the other two being lemmy.ml and lemmygrad.ml) didn't renew their domain name, and it's currently up for auction https://www.sav.com/auctions/details/7073489/hexbear.net.

If they don't get their domain back (the current bid is $1921 USD), they'll have to either start from scratch with a new domain or attempt to update their config to match a new domain. Lemmy (and the fediverse at large) isn't designed to handle domain changes, so it'll be interesting to see if that even works.

It couldn't have happened to a better bunch! I have hexbear.net blocked, for context. I should add the other two to my block list, now that I think of it.

As much as they suck, please don't add ".ml" to the block list. I'm following a few instances registered on there for FOSS apps, back when it was one of the only servers open for registration.

sub.wetshaving.social

My personal block list is what I was referring to. We currently don't block anything at the site level.

sub.wetshaving.social

Ah sorry, I misunderstood that. 😅 I can definitely see the point in that then, even though I myself am politically left-leaning; it's a quite harsh/borderline extremist userbase on those servers.

(Side question: so it's not a limitation of our server if some communities are displayed as "completely empty" despite having thousands of members and hundreds of posts?)

4
waldenreply
sub.wetshaving.social

If a single user of sub.wetshaving.social subscribes to a community, our instance will start pulling new content for that community. Old content isn't really pulled, even if you subscribe.

If nobody is subscribed, the first time someone views it it'll probably show as empty. In the background it's doing its best to gather some posts though, so refreshing after 10 seconds should show the most recent content.

5

Thanks for the thorough explanation! It is really helpful. I always assumed it was due to the small size of our instance and that it might not be federated with every single server. What you wrote makes a lot more sense though!

3

No problem. To expand on it a tiny bit, once a single user subscribes to a community, that community is then shown under "all". "All" doesn't show anything if nobody is subscribed.

  • Brush: RazoRock 400 Noir SE 24 mm
  • Razor: RazoRock Gamechanger 0.84 OC w/ Superknurl handle
  • Blade: BIC Chrome Platinum
  • Lather: Barrister & Mann- Le Grand Chypre
  • Post-Shave: Osma alum block; OAM witch hazel & cucumber toner

-> 1 pass head shave. Was the OC razor way more eager to cut than the Cyber? Yeah! Was it too eager? Unfortunately yeah too. Had a big weeper on the right side of my scalp, but alum and witch hazel fixed that.

I wanted to join in on the LGC fun, somehow this Citrus Cola scent wasn't what I was expecting reading those scent notes, but it is a damn fine soap. It's in Omnibus already, so this shave was ultra slick despite me overhydrating the lather yet again.

Two things that should probably go down the drain: today's brush and the OC plate. While the handle is my all-time fav, I simply don't like or need anything that aggressive anymore. Perhaps I can find a nice replacement head somewhere? The brush was used so much by me and it had a good run. Now, from all the swirling I do when lathering on my head, the inside fibers somehow developed splits and became tangled. Since I really love the Rubberset style handle, I should probably try to drill/steam the old knot out and replace it with something better. Also, I really want to get away from too much RazoRock stuff in my den. It's very affordable at a good quality, but it sure has its shortcomings. Anyway, have a nice day/evening!

I really like 24 mm boar knots in my rubberset handles. I still have a spare 24 mm bleached Zenith knot and I'd be happy to let you have it if you're interested.

Idk what shipping would look like to me, but I’d gladly take that GC head off you.

Feel free to dm if interested

Day 12 of Atlas Shaves 2 – Electric Boogaloo Wed 12 Feb 2025

  • Brush: Zenith 506B MB (27 mm × 51 mm Manchurian badger)
  • Razor: Wolfman WR2 (1.55 mm SB / 1.25 mm OC)
  • Blade: Polsilver Stainless Blade
  • Lather: Barrister and Mann – Roam
  • Post Shave: Barrister and Mann – Roam Two
  • Fragrance: Barrister and Mann – Roam Two

I thought that I had a smush of today's theme soap somewhere, but I couldn't find it. Eh Jebiga. Waiting for better luck tomorrow.

It felt good using the chonky Wolfie again after a long period of open blades, and Roam is always a winner. I'm still on the fence about Roam Two. It's more spicy and less grassy than OG Roam, and I'd probably love it it it wasn't called Roam Two, but since it is, I can't help but think of it in comparison.

MOAR NEW feather

Going to take a break before my tub kill to run through the den. Its pretty big for a normal person but probably small for this community.

I cleared most of the samples last year so I'm going to ignore the last few of those that I have - which leaves me with 20 soaps ( and 3 in transit/parked with onion).

I can't remember when I got each so it's going to be a rough chronological order from my early purchases through to today.

  1. Wickham soap co. - ninfeo di eregia or however it's spelled.

A light, bright floral scent. Middling soap quality though.

5

I agree. You can cover pretty much all types of scent and have some variety.

Given my stash includes MWF and MdC I'm probably set for life.

@[email protected] to the rescue! My knight in snooting armour remembered that he was the one who has sent me the smush of today's theme soap. Armed with the knowledge that I hadn't dreamed the smush's existence, I looked again and found it.

Yayyy, my first soap match! Thanks, snooting!

Also, I learned from snooting that any identified error in another sub member's SOTD counts, not just dules violations in the SOTDs of fellow participants in AS2EB. I have no idea how I missed that before. Anyway, there's a funny typo in scribe's SOTD that I was the first to point out. +3 points, nice.

You found it! What did you think of the scent?

Also that’s an even more generous interpretation of the rule than I’d taken, but I have to admit the rule’s wording allows for it.

5

Tbh, i rushed the shave a bit, so its too early for a verdict. I got a distinct coca cola note, and I'm positivity intrigued. I'll try it again soon

3 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

Great shave! The last two days I have done 3-pass shaves. Really, I don't get much better results than I do with my optimized 2-pass pattern, but it is a nice change.

Does Vie-Long not produce horse hair shave brushes anymore? I can't find a single seller with horse hair brushes in stock anymore and the only Vie-Long branded brushes I have found are either synthetic or badger.

3

Thit's what you get from not according your adjective with the noun's gender! I had a shop close to my place called Casa Mexicano. It went broke.

Though Vero Moda is still going strong.

Not sure about vie-long. Ice intake ever had one horse hair brush from them and really disliked it, so haven't kept up with the brand.

If you're looking for any horse hair brush, however, I can recommend Zenith. Both their XS (extra soft) and their 50/50 horse hair knots are really pleasant

Thanks for the recommendation, Ill have to look into Zenith brushes.
