Got busy last weekend making a window panel for my portable AC. Current me is grateful for past me.

14

Got out for a swim this morning and goddamn it felt amazing. Boyo and I are now proper zonked though!

Ugh. So sick of my weeping face.. it's sloooowly getting better but this hot weather is pretty hard. Cursing myself and my nighttime stupidity every day. Everyone starting work early Monday and Tuesday in order to finish early. I can't because school run. So I've got Monday off that I know of because there's no point in them having me go in for a couple of hours. Possibly Tuesday as well. Nice but need the moolah. So between cursing myself and being skint I'm a miserable bitch lol. Going to look at animal pictures 😄

I used to suffer from it. For the longest time no one would work out what it was.

Now I know what it is after a decade.

Hope they’ve given you antibiotics for it and you may need some cream or something to go with it.

It’ll get better with some time and proper rest with those meds.

2

Thanks mate! Yeah they did give me some antibiotics and I've found Medicream (the one with the lignocaine) to be best at this stage.

3

I really worry about you Bottom 🌊🏊🏼‍♀️😳. I know I'm not the only one in this community who does.

3rd migraine in a week, not pleased , will just try to sleep and rest it off

11
aussie.zone

Me too, and I was only just recovering from the last five-day effort. It's the stormy weather triggering me today I reckon.

4

Ugh! I don't migraine (I think?) but my sinuses are hell. Tight as band around the temples etc

So the praying mantis is still hiding in my studio. I believe it's a male and I don't have the heart to tell it its head could be devoured upon sexy time. If it were smart it should get a little mantis helmet.

It is doing a wonderful job with flies though.

11

I wonder how common the head thing is. Do you think it got observed one time and then mantises got a reputation for it?

2

Spent the day with a close mate. Sat around talking all day in front of the aircon. Was fucking awesome! He's a really good guy, super chill and has a very grounding presence.

I'm going on a blind date with a friend of a friend of his which could be really cool. We have similar interests which is always nice. It'll be an interesting experience regardless of what happens.

Hope everyone is doing OK out there ❤️

That’s a nice way to spend the day, especially when it’s so hot outside.

When you going to be going on your date?

Good to see you’ve got cat tv on in the background.

4

Going on Thursday night. I've found a nice bar down south Yarra to grab a drink and see if we get along.

I pretty much talk to anyone and everyone who I feel wants to talk so meeting new people is always fun regardless.

We're both part time musicians so there's plenty to chat about.

I don't go with any expectations and I think that's the right way to approach things. Always up for making a new friend :)

Shit is really kicking off down there, those rain bands are seemingly materialising out of nowhere! Good timing to have cleaned the gutters. Hope no crazy disasters @Bottom_racer.

Skies are darkening where I am (NW suburbs). Radar’s not showing anything though. Come on my garden needs a drink.

3

Same here. Low grey threatening clouds, wind gusts but so far no rain. And I watered the garden too so here's hoping.

Hilarity from the Other Place. No you should not ask your Ex to use a clone a Willy kit! Reminds me of the running bet I had with myself about how many pages into a thesis by a male sculpture student I could get without finding a replica of their cock.

One I recall distinctly broke the line between Art and Non consensual kink involvement very very badly.

I have a strong distaste for nonconsentual exhibitionism. Maybe I'm a touch prudish, but keep it to yourself or goto a sex event. I did security at sex events years ago, that's the place for it.

8

Very much so! That dude installed a piece on the floor. If you know events you know how out of ok that was.

3

I made a bit of headway trying to get a not to work on here. I figured out how to edit read-only files on linux. I just need to get docker to work now and I should be able to post to testing

9

Shout out to Pilpel for making one of the nicest taramasalata dips I've ever had I think. I will even forgive them for putting 'DAIRY FREE' and 'GLUTEN FREE' on the label. Had some on buttered bread and more on some lettuce leaves. Mega delicious - they've got the balance of fish roe and lemon juice just right. Seriously moreish.

8

I've heard their hommus is pretty good too. I'll have to try the taramasalata one of these days

5
aussie.zone

taramasalata dips

I've never heard of that. Will have to give it a go!

3

The standard recipie is salted fish roe (any sort), bread soaked in water, and lemon juice blitzed up with some olive oil. Dip comes out pinkish and creeeeaamy and loaded with umami. Lovely as a dip, or an emergency pasta sauce. Easy to get wrong, bloody delicious when done right. Would go OK with paprika on top I reckon.

After spending big money on the recent bike service they still didn't fix the puncture I brought it in for. If I need to replace the tyres I'm going to get the very sensible Schwalbe Marathons instead of these temperamental and expensive racing tyres

8
aussie.zone

After spending big money on the recent bike service

It's a ripoff. I was shocked with my last one years ago (was $400 and I'm not even sure what they did). I just do it myself these days w/ the help of YT. Not for everyone but once you do it once it's easy.

7

They replaced the chain and rear sprocket, which makes sense since I've been towing a trailer. Its more that I took it in to get a specific thing fixed and they didn't do that, whilst charging me for everything else

1
dumblederpreply
aussie.zone

I've been happy with my marathons. I used to get continental gatorskins but they dropped in quality - I tore through the side wall on three in a year. Plus the marathons have the reflective stripe, I'm big on cycling visibility.

1

That's what I want. Nice, simple tyres that just get the job done. I mostly use my bike for commuting so I don't need fancy race tyres

2

In my undies, spent a whole afternoon watching Love, Death + Robots while drinking watermelon coconut water. Now door is open and I am enjoying a lime icy pole. This is good.

8
aussie.zone

Super surprised by the possible thunderstorm forecast this afternoon

6
aussie.zone

Saw that. I swear their forecasts are becoming less accurate from further out but there's probs data there to prove me wrong.

6

There is some kind of association with very hot days and sudden/unpredictable mini storms in Melbs if I recall from some post someone did about this a while back on the other site. Inversion layer or something. Same thing that happened on Monday

6
aussie.zone

Stop what you're doing, it's time for an icy pole. And a drink of something non-alcoholic. Even if you just finished an icy pole, have another one please. Or an ice cream.

Keep up that hydration. 💧🍦🧊🧃

8

By all means drink all the alcohol, if you fancy. But please drink plenty of water too, or soft drink or whatever. It's so easy to dehydrate in this weather, and alcohol makes it easier.

I have 'cocktail' zooper doopers. The expresso martini one is a face punch!

3
aussie.zone

Imma eat them all.

Fuuuuu, I am cooked. Like overdone. I should have had some more water before I left. Felt fine (albeit sweaty asf) until I got off my bike and walked in and suddenly felt off.

Lucky it was just for a moment and the home is cool and dark.

3

I watched a bit of the Bellarine road race on tv and that was quite enough cycling for me. Definitely have all the icy poles!

3

My lemon lime bitters cost more than a beer.

But what is sweet is the breeze in the trees up in Marysville.

7

I’m out watering the garden at the moment.

Well, I am relocating and timing the sprinklers as necessary, patting the dog, listening to birdsong and drinking my morning coffee.

7
Eaglereply

Ooh, I have to remember to soak the hydrangeas. Thanks!

My front sprinklers are on the fritz. I had to water half of my front yard by hand! Oh well. I had to do the naturestrip anyway.

5

Yet another evacuation in the Grampians. They're having a thoroughly shit run. Hopefully they can get it all under control.

Anyone down round Geelong? Radar looks WILD down there

Edit: oh I see chat of this further down. Should have scrolled

7
aussie.zone

Stuffed myself full of food and some wine for my dad’s bday.

On the verge of a food coma which isn’t good as I need to drive home soon.

Not a bad way to spend the weekend.

6

Oh it was probably just me. I wasn’t feeling so particularly social about it all.

Just have to suck it up sometimes.

I don’t think I’ve seen the family in awhile. The small kids have grown up bigger than I remember.

1

Apparently blackouts are kicking off in the northern suburbs. Stay safe everyone!

6

Cool breeze coming in from the west here in Thornbury. Very welcome. Still humid and too hot for my liking. Some lightning off to the west.

EDIT: first drops falling - gonna be epic!

On reflection, if I'd washed the windows AS WELL as watering the garden, maybe it would have come sooner ...

Big red blob coming in from the west, I think this one’s gonna hit us in northern parts. Bring it onnnnn

4
aussie.zone

I hear the thunders now and the rains have come somehow making it hotter inside.

2

Lightning here too. I just got.spoked by thunder I wasn’t expecting.

Winds have really picked up too over in the SE.

woke up hungry at 6, had breakfast and went back to sleep

now out for a second breakfast and a tiny shop (no it is not tiny i am getting a dozen eggs)

6

Breakfast breakfast breakfast... tomatoes and eggs and breakfast snags!

Then the dishes 😒 I really need to get onto fb marketplace to look for a second hand benchtop dishwasher already

5

The bird water was down again… one of the magpies landed on the edge of the container but because the weight had been stolen it just flipped over. I’d put something heavier/more permanent out there if I thought it would last longer than five seconds.

Melbcat has had breakfast but is still fairly quiet. She seemed to follow the movement of my arm with her head but then stopped doing it.

I’m starting to clean and tidy up my house for the home vet visit in a few days. The challenge will be to do it without stressing her out so I’m starting now and doing it slowly. I really hate having people in my house but it’s gotta happen -_-

I learned how to thread eyebrows while procrastinating but kept going on minor imperfections (rather than give in and use tweezers) and made mine a little bit thin or rather a shape I don’t prefer.

My tooth is giving me grief but I managed to get an appointment early this coming week.

5

I rewatched episode 4 of The Pitt as well before going into episode 5. The real-time format makes it hard to watch week by week as I'd forget the patients but damn it's so heavy sometimes that you really do need a break between episodes. Again, very unusual for me normally to re-watch an episode so soon but it's so well made that I was glued to the screen the whole time revisiting everything. And I really couldn't stop crying over the bit with the siblings and their elderly father, especially the sister. 😭 It is really good tv. I suspect near the end of the season I'll end up re-watching the whole thing from the start. I love so many of these characters

5

Sometimes I just want to shave my head.

No matter how much I vacuum, it’s like Tim from Demtel.

5

Heh. My rather colourful hair is often proof the cleaners at work aren't doing that

40 degree scorcher of a day ending with the biggest hail I've seen in years, rightio 🤷

Rain has finally hit Fitzroy. Now if only it would drop 5 degrees.

3

Gosh yes I wish it would cool down a bit. Hope there's no hail though, no carport... Loving the sound of the rain ATM though. Good time to wind down for bed

4
aussie.zone

Grrr I can see parts of Melbourne getting rain on the radar, but absolutely nothing where I am. Jealous.

4

Same. Wouldn't mind some rain to wash things off

E: I cranked open the window temporarily to see what it's like out there. Tropical. Foul!
