Elon Musk says $1 million election giveaway wasn't an illegal lottery
In a late Friday filing in the Austin, Texas federal court, Musk rejected the claim the giveaway was an illegal "lottery" that violated a Texas law against deceptive trade practices.
Arizona resident Jacqueline McAferty claimed that Musk and his political action committee America PAC falsely induced voters in seven battleground states to sign the petition by promising that winners would be chosen randomly.
According to Musk, however, voters were told they would be reviewed for an opportunity to earn the $1 million by becoming America PAC spokespeople.
This, Musk said, defeated any notion that the money was a "prize" to be won.

Well no shit he's going to say that. Did people expect him to say, "yep, I did something illegal?"
Doing so would be at least slightly cool, which he is demonstrably incapable of.
Honestly it wouldn't surprise me.
He has Trump under his thumb, he's mad with power, and loves pissing people off. It doesn't seem like something out of character for him and I wouldn't be that surprised if he would start bragging about his crimes if the media stopped paying attention to him for more than 48 hours or so.
Don't worry, if the judge decides that it was in fact an illegal lottery, the orange guy will pardon him anyway.
Yep, another headline about a point of law that won't result in consequences regardless, because we've broken our government.
