Are all basic consumer fire alarms about the same or do some stand out?
Noticed this community and it happens to be well timed: my smoke detector says it's too old. Assuming I should trust it on that, what should I replace it with? I've no wiring for those so am looking for the usual battery operated standalone one. Or it pretty much doesn't matter, they all work about as well?

Oh hey sorry the delay I am still working on getting notifications.
So smoke alarms are designed to lasts up to 10 years and unless your device is AC with Battery Backup, any photoelectric smoke alarms are efficient. I would strongly recommend the new models a bit more expensive but has a built-in Lithium battery that lasts 10 years (so no more battery to replace) and avoid Kidde as they have too many recalls in the past
