How bad is this electrical wiring from the 50s?
These are original non-metalic cables located in our crawlspace. They're stapled to the main beams, and all look pretty warn near where the staples are.
How dangerous is this? I'd prefer not to have to rewire if possible.
@Realtrain Those cables are likely encased in asbestos insulation. Nothing to freak out about here - they're pretty stable and don't shed unless you start screwing with them. Is there any shorting going on? Do you need to tap in to them for additional projects? If you're just wondering if they're OK to leave alone the answer is yes.
Not planning to tap into them or anything, but we just noticed while crawling around down there today.
We are planning to update switches, outlets, and fixtures pretty soon. I'd imagine if they're crumbling here, they're likely crumbling there too?
