I'm back. Spent Friday in hospital with some pretty sketch vitals but they gave me an IV and I appear to be alive again. Viral meningitis is the leading theory, we couldn't actually diagnose it and given I'm no longer looking like the reapers next target no one is all that stressed any more.

21

Holy shit. Glad to hear you're still with us but that sounds like the shittest weekend possible. May you recover swiftly

Hooray we got it. Actually had no idea I did until this morn. lol. Turns out it was a bit more south than i thought. Couldn't see it with the naked eye.

10" exposure 800iso f/1.8 so pretty faint really. I thought it was supposed to be brighter. but now we know where to look (thanks to tha little rock in the foreground thanks buddy) so will have another go tonight.

Washing machine sorted. A leaky hose. Now I have 4 weeks worth of washing to do. Me happy.

you had 4 weeks of undies? I couldnt go 2 weeks, and even then wouldnt make it that far in socks.

6

Well. Undies were the last things that I washed and sometimes I didn't even bother to put some on after showering. It's good to let bits breathe occasionally.

8

Alright. The meeting for a pay rise is tomorrow.

Thankfully, I've got 2 more interviews. One from Australia and one from a very large multinational electronics firm.

Let's see what happens.

Goodnight all ❤️

14

I'm out of NRTs
So I'm going cold turkey
Pray for me 😭

Edit: thank you all for your advice and support! Truly. But I cannot buy NRTs or anything until Friday, we have less than $100 and I would prefer to keep that for cat food/human food.

Apologies for complaining. I'm always complaining.

13

It's just a craving. And it will come and go.

You've dealt with tougher shit than that.

6

nicotell stage 3's. A months worth for the same price as a deck, and they help you maintain. You might still kinda habitually want, but you won't be at the "shank my grandma for a durrie" level.

::: spoiler If you want my 2c? Cheap reusable vape kit + nicotine prescription + premade 0% juice to slowly water it down over time.

It’s a bit fussy and looks douchey short term plus the long term health risks haven’t been researched. But tapering down slowly and then off will help you with a really tough quit. Hopefully you won’t need it for too long.

A decent strength initially helps break the habit of the cigs and then you can work with it from there.

Pick a MTL (mouth to lung) option as it’s more similar to smoking and doesn’t produce huge obnoxious clouds. I bought an Aspire Pockex kit which at the time was around $30 on eBay for vape + charger + a coil. It was about the size of a ‘lipstick’ style power bank. It’s not fashionable but was a very good tool to quit.

:::

::: spoiler Very good advice Avoid any butter flavours. Choose fruit or go unflavoured (diacetyl = popcorn lung). Avoid sugar in liquid as it can burn coils faster.

Avoid disposable black market vapes (unpredictable strength, heavy metals and lipid pneumonia). These are what led to the acute short term health problems in the news.

Use an online calculator and either a jewellery scale or syringe to dilute as accurately as possible.

Don’t start/use the device when the tank is empty or the liquid is getting low. Also get enough spare coils to change them frequently - when using for the first time or changing the coil either let it sit for for a while or slowly drip liquid inside the coil to completely wet the cotton before firing the device. (Burned coils taste terrible and emit seriously bad chemicals. Dirty ones also aren’t good.)

I don’t know what strength you get prescribed (I quit before the ban) but treat the nicotine liquid with caution. Clean up any spills or wash it off your skin immediately. Don’t let Mickey near it and try to avoid vaping near him. :::

Just beautiful on the beach tonight.. Water is the perfect temperature.

My work forecast today:

Pictures not of my actual work, as I'm still on a bus crawling along a busy road!

13
aussie.zone

Some shitty news at work this morning. A couple of vacated senior positions will not be back filled. That's a few opportunities we won't be getting. Time to start looking elsewhere methinks.

Sounds like the way to go. If there's no way up you'll just have to move sideways

7

I've got a contract until end of this year. It being public service, the job is all but guaranteed until then. Looking at other departments now, cause I want to keep my entitlements at least, but could go private if necessary.

I'm fortunate enough to have a decent amount of time to make that decision, others don't have that luxury.

7

Got up from my desk to stack the dishwasher and clean up and somehow ended up in bed with the covers over me....no.....I have been exhausted all day. No idea why

12

Got an early start tomorrow, we're gonna beat the heat (hopefully) and get the pizza bases finished early. Now I've got to try and get some sleep in a house where everyone is still up and about 🙉Goodnight everyone! 💤

Hard to choose the sunset swim pic but we're going with this:

Also met the most ridiculously tiny toy doggo who just ran up to say hello. Would've been no taller than my ankle. Fearless.

11

One of the boys had a croaky voice and now I'm feeling it too. Time to see how flexible the new job is with being in the office, lest they want everyone else to get sick too

Can’t wake my brain up today. Really wish I was out for a swim instead of at my desk.

Ugh the bedroom was so hot I didn't fall asleep until 1:30am and now I feel like warmed over crap despite feeling so upbeat last night! I ought to get those car windscreen shades for the windows already...

same, I woke up from the warm, had to put ac on. Even the cats were struggling.

7
aussie.zone

Poor Bill and Ted. Those coats would've made it stifling (although I know cats have that undercoat of fur or something that helps with temperature regulation). We just need to make it to Wednesday!

4
aussie.zone

Same! We had the AC going till about 2:30 to keep the air moving which was nice. Woke up at 430 and it was too warm...took me too long to fall back asleep (generally do it in seconds).

Today will be a struggle.

7

I had the AC on sleep mode but should've had it regular overnight honestly. It was disgusting. I feel like death today and I have to be outside all day, joy. Good luck to us both

4

One of the larger companies account managers needs to be away for 2 weeks.

So guess what's happening? Either me or my feckless co worker will have to do his job while he's away.

If I get given this, and no pay raise, then I'm bailing asap.

Love when someone else's leave becomes your problem. A couple years back my old boss went galivanting around Europe for 2 months and most of her work fell onto me, it was hell.

8
aussie.zone

I love the word gallivanting. It's a nicer word than whoring or trollopsing.

8
aussie.zone

When i went on leave for a week for my birthday last year nobody was asked to take over.

I'm still catching up and that was in November.

7

That's what usually happens to me too, if I'm not here everything just piles up.

I'm away for 2 and a half weeks in April. Pray for Mojo.

6

"Thanks boss! which of these responsibilities should I delegate to make room? And to whom?"

Gina Rinehart putting a full page ad praising Trump in the Wall Street Journal is unsettling. And that photo, just weird. I’d like to get off this 2025 timeline and go back to the normal one please.

Its so nice giving up on keeping up to date with this shit. You should give it a go! I miss the daily show, but beyond that there is really no upside in being involved in foreign politics unless your playing the stock market or investing.

8

Christ it was hot and muggy out there. Disgusting!! Felt so gross by noon. Burnt, dehydrated, fly- irritated ... The one plus point is I managed to leave early enough after hitting my quota and have embarked on dinner as I promised myself.

It's turning out a bit ambitious: teriyaki salmon, blanched amaranth with sesame and miso, quick pickled carrot and daikon (my life for a julienne-r - atrocious knife skills). Now for a quick run to the shops for short grain rice to round it out, even though the Coles ones taste like cardboard.

Cut too much daikon so that's gone into a spicy stir fry with more carrot...

Pet Peeve - someone messages you on teams with a question, you go to reply and their status is set to Busy or DND.

Check later and they're offline and out of office until next week.

Are some people really that scatterbrained?

9

hahahah yes. It's urgent until you try and get more info to work on the issue....then suddenly it's nbd.

6

Same with text messages.

Sometimes I respond straight away and I get nothing back, even knowing that they are glued to their phones or have an Apple Watch on their wrist all the time.

Annoys me to no end that I’ve given my time for someone and they can’t be bothered to even say a thanks.

Scatterbrained isn’t what I’d call it, I’d call it deliberate.

6

Ugh, ded.

Big weekend of scooting around. Sabotaged bedtime in typical Llab fashion. Waking up hurts.

9
aussie.zone

Keep forgetting how very, very little kitchen space there is and I can't make several things at once. I ended up doing teriyaki salmon (delicious but way too fussy needing the flouring first), blanched amaranth with Japanese sesame sauce (goma-ae), and a quick pickle of shittily julienned carrot and daikon radish. With gluggy rice because I stupidly followed the packet instructions instead of my own experience that jasmine rice needs 1:1 in this rice cooker 🙄

Took like 3 hours in the end... Not exactly worth it but well at least I tried. Rest of this week is gonna be far simpler! Fuck I hate this kitchen.

::: spoiler too lazy to plate dinner properly :::

Now for all the washing up 😮‍💨 edit because I forgot I'd already posted before. I oughta sleep early tonight

8

Thanks! Aside from the rice it mostly worked pretty well as a combo. The upshot is I have heaps of pickled carrot and radish for the next few weeks...

6

been too hot to work on the terrace garden for long, 10 minutes an hour is better than nothing

8
aussie.zone

Done. Got up. Reset kitchen, got some yoghurt doing its thing in the instant pot, even managed to wipe down the bathroom surfaces while it boiled. Now bed for reals. Night all

if this f'ing laptop goes to sleep on more time I'm installing Mint and you can hold me to that. Only thing I can see in is maybe a "hibernate after 180 minutes" cause its sure as shit not set to sleep otherwise.

Hell, 11 has been installing an update for the past 20 minutes and its only at 4%. I may just install linux anyway.

last distro I deployed was Mint and I was super impressed till I did an update that stuffed the distro. Panicked each time it tried to boot. Windows may shit me, but I know how to fix it.

3

yeah, snapstore is a blight upon the earth. But I've been building linux for so many years I am confident of my ability to get out of some unholy messes (of my own making)....

Haven't used mint for ages but it was really nice last time.

Watched Wicked last night and it was every bit as pretty as I knew it would be. The music made me grin so much.

::: spoiler spoilery thoughts about the movie Boq’s line of “I’ll do anything for you” to Galinda made me laugh out loud and snap “including leave your wife and kid!” But I actually liked both Ethan Slater and I may not be an Ariana Grande fan, but she was really good in the role – her voice was great!

The cameo in the Emerald City had me shouting in delight – I had no idea it was coming and just adored it.

I felt like something was missing or just not quite right with the flow, but I can’t put my finger on it. Like the flow from “we’re friends!” to “the Wizard wants to see you!” felt a bit funny, but maybe it’s cause I was drinking wine. Also some of the music felt kind of disjointed, I can’t remember if I thought that when I saw the stage show or not. :::

I did say to my boyfriend that just once in my life I want to be part of a choreographed troupe, dancing around a burning effigy.

5

Id love to see it tbh, but Ariana creeps me out 😂 and so does SpongeBoq.

Maybe I'll watch it once part 2 comes out lol - I think in too invested in the arianagrandessnark subreddit presently 😂

6

I did wonder if I was going to struggle to watch it when her in it, but she did really well in the role. It suits her - someone who thinks they're so great, but really kinda isn't. I find both her and Cynthia insufferable.
