Limits of the game is right.

Over about 1000 SPM you need to design to optimize for frame rate and stop using parts like belts and nuclear reactors that require more CPU to simulate.

You can go a lot higher than 1000 without optimizing for UPS, they’ve made a lot of performance improvements over the years. Highly hardware dependent, of course

I have a very high end computer and was able to flirt with 10kSPM but having to move to beltless designs is a real drag.

Is SPM typically considered continuous production without slowdowns forever, or, is there some unwritten rule about needing to maintain +1000 for a specific amount of time?

I can spike to 700 SPM at times, but it only lasts for a minute or two until a resource or two gets completely sucked dry. (Until I get better production, I just pace my research and buffer enough resources to keep research at 100% for a bit.)

It's meant to be continuous production. Usually this kind of base is left on continuously and people will post the 10 hour production graphs
