Perez was already nursing a problem, if anyone was driving dangerously it was him.

4

Hmm, I dunno… I can see it being ruled a racing incident because the action wasn’t that bad. But he did understeer into an opponent, damaging his car, and ruining his race.

It seems like they judged the outcome more so than the action itself.

Agreed - WTF was that about - nothing happened to any of the cars, it was racing.

5 Seconds is a bit of a joke considering they were alongside in the corner and the track conditions 🙄

He's had a lot of bad luck this season, but i feel his drives have gone under the radar a bit. He's in a new team and has been more or less on the same racepace as Ocon from the get-go. Very interested to see how the fight between the two develops.

Shouldn't he get a penalty for unsafe release? He almost crashed into Stroll. Why was there no mention of this from race control?

Gasly and Leclerc both looked like they should have gotten unsafe release penalties. I guess the stewards decided to be lenient considering the chaos in the pits.

6

I guess so, but I can't agree with that decision. We have multiple formation laps because otherwise there could be dangerous situations. Sargent get's a penalty for speeding in the pit lane, a rule that exists to prevent dangerous situations. But when there are actual dangerous situations, they chose to do nothing? A

Ricciardo in the points 🤯🤯

Edit: no more :(

17

Still not too bad of a drive! He definitely had more pace than Yuki.

Checo floundering and Danny Ric in the points in an Alpha Tauri. I think we all know what thoughts are going through Helmut's head right now.

8

Finished way ahead of Tsunoda and (by luck) ahead of Perez, that looks good for him

While we wait, thought I'd share this from the stream:

Great strategy from McLaren. Interested to see how things work out with no DRS for Max.

Gasly got a huge jump. Finally a W for Alpine. Sainz got shafted unfortunately.

11

And now the tables have turned between Oscar and Max thanks to the safety car!

2

They could have chosen to stay out the first lap. But yeah I guess that wasn't really a smart option.

2

There's possibly not enough time to run the session. There's only an hour without rain forecast and based on Sprint Qualifying it'll take half an hour once the rain stops to get started.

0

Hamilton knocked a lump out of the Red Bull. How you can claim a penalty isn't deserved is beyond me.

8

I just watched the race and I didn't notice the hole until I saw a post on Reddit, I don't think it was obvious during the race that there was that much damage.

3

The radar they showed don't give me much hope they will start anytime soon...

2

If this is the threshold for the amount of spray to race then we'll never see a full wet race again.

Same. I woke up a bit late and thought I missed the start. Anyone knows the reason for it?

There was a delay to the sprint qualifying and there’s a rule about giving a certain amount of time between quali and the sprint.

Thanks for the info. We are expected to have rain in within 5 mins of the start. Should be an exciting sprint.

Praying for rain 🌧️

[Damn, prayed too hard I hate safety car starts 🤦‍♂️]

2

Wow, can barely remember the last time Fernando made a mistake like that.

3
lemmy.world

I sure wish this was going to be a standing start. I'd love to see Oscar try to get the jump on Max.

2

That would just lead to a red flag which takes until it starts raining again and we wouldn't have gotten a race

I thought the test they did with them didn't work? Didn't Williams do a test at Silverstone with them?

2

Yes, the test was made and it did not work, so I guess it is back to the drawing board

Issue doesn't seem to have been caused by him this time? They retired the car.

Edit: he said collision with Hamilton caused retirement. He was losing pace before that though, so that's on him.

2

Everything that led up to that is his fault though. So whilst the contact and the resulting damage wasn’t his fault, the fact that he was in that situation at all was.

I'm wondering if Piastri would have had a better chance if he delayed the restart until the start/finish straight.

0

He lost almost 7 seconds over such a short period of time. I don't think he could stay ahead in this race.

4

probably not: Spa is always great for the overtaker due to the long straight into and after eau rouge. McLaren is also running very strong wings which hurts their performance on the straights (but helps during e.g. rainy qualifyings....).
Realistically, if there is any chance of overtaking at all, Verstappen can overtake just due to less drag on the straights.

Is there anywhere I can watch the race? I have Fubo and their DVR sucks and when schedules change it doesn’t change the recording time. I got an hour of college football and SportsCenter 😖
