It's gonna be heavily moderated and anything negative will be removed, probably.

they lied about Apollo blackmailing them I wouldn't be surprised

What? Who lied about what? Can you expand on this, I have no idea what it means other than knowing Apollo is probably referring to the Reddit app.

4

So my understanding is Reddit, or specifically u/spez, tried to claim that the Apollo developer was blackmailing them over the entire API pricing debacle. The Apollo developer posted the audio and transcript of the call with Reddit showing they were lying. Now they've claimed his App is poorly developed and making wasteful amounts of API calls- so now he's posted a large swath of code online to disprove that also.

tl;dr reddit CEO caught in a couple lies

14

Apollo dev must understand that Lemmy is slowly gaining ground. He could build an instance or rebuild Apollo into a Lemmy client.

sorry duud I'm using jerboa and didn't get a notification for this, looks like people have already clarified below though

Ha, the lemmy devs don't know how to moderate correctly.

Is Kbin Lemmy, or is Kbin just federated with Lemmy? Still trying to figure all this out.

2

Mostly interface, some say it is more simple. It does both the aggregation and communities like Lemmy and microblogging. It also does some sort of microblogging related to the individual communities but I don’t really understand how that feature works.

Somebody could use it instead of lemmy or mastodon, but it also federates to them so nobody misses out.

I feel like it will, I swear he has every redditor pissed off at him right now.

Because there's no way they'll manipulate that number in the database.

Could we theoretically pay reddit for API access and log / monitor any changes to the vote counts that way ?

I think it's still free till the 1rst of July, so, if someone has experience they could do something like that

5

There are actually some legit anti-spam reasons that reddit has been obfuscating vote counts and totals for a long time now. Even if this wasn't a known phenomenon, I don't think I'd trust the API call results anyway.

5

Actually that's a really good point, and I should have thought of that because I'm actually a programmer lol

I used to be the CEO of one of the most visited sites before we decided to blow it up, AMAA!

reddthat.com

This is going to be better than the Woody Harrelson Rampart AMA. And by better I mean an unmitigated dumpster fire. Can't wait.

25

Yeah I didnt realize they were giving away front row seats to the dumpster fire of a decade. I dont know if it can be worse than Elon buying twitter, but we can hope.

16

Can't beat the Jose Canseco one. I used to go back to it a few times a year when I was down for a pick me up. That AMA was prime shitposting.

4
lemm.ee

The kind of idiot that ruins their website by killing third party tools then lying about it

23

Also slandering developers who have pretty much done your job for you for years

I can’t wait to see how bad this goes after reading about the Apollo drama with Reddit.

20
lemmy.one

This'll be one of the worst AMAs after the James Corden one. Lmao. He'll get crucified.

Edit: or maybe he'll just edit the questions/comments of users before answering.

15
lemmy.ml

I know this won't happen but the best possible outcome would be if nobody showed up.

11

I think that's essentially what will happen, but they'll just remove comments they don't like. If no one showed up at all they'd look even dumber. But it's going to be a trainwreck for the ages so I'm looking forward to the show.

For the sake of avoiding linking to reddit, basically Spez accused the main Apollo dev of blackmailing them for 10 million to "make the drama go away". But the call was recorded by the Apollo dev and it turns out Spez took one interaction out of context and even backtracked, since in the original call he even straight up said "oh sorry for misunderstanding".

(The apollo dev said that if Apollo generates so much load on the servers why not just buy it to put an end to it. Spez took it as a threat, the Apollo dev explained himself and Spez apologized like 4 times for misunderstanding)

29

I don't know how someone can insults their character worse than by pretending to be a victim and getting caught as a fraud. At that point, your word is gone and no one should waste their time listening to anything you have to say.

9

That's why the government pushed him to suicide with their insane prison sentence. He was too good for us.
