If O'Brian is at the transporter controls, everything will probably be fine. If anyone else is at the controls, something will probably go wrong.

I've never understood why that was even an option. It seems incredibly irresponsible for an allegedly enlightened people.

You guys and your anti-Transporter conspiracy theories are too much. Millions of people are using the transporters safely every day, and how many transporter accidents have there been in the past 10 years? Two? Three? There hasn't even been a case of transporter psychosis in several decades, since they perfected the multiplex pattern buffers

Sure, there are accidents. But shuttlecrafts have a higher failure rate than transporters themselves. Transporting really is the safest way to travel.

Now the holodeck, on the other hand... I could go on for weeks about all the things wrong with the holodeck. How can anyone go and relax in the holodeck knowing that if something fails, it will automatically reclaim all the matter including humans?
