So sad! Oh no.

There's a great podcast called "You're Wrong About" which they take things that we might have one idea about when actually... it's wrong. I mean the name explains itself. They did an episode April of this year about Sinead O'Connor. It's a good episode.

Hey guys, sorry it took so long to get over here. I’ve been very tired and was a bit intimidated by the learning curve of the site.

Melbcat is here with me, happy and spoilt.

Edit: I’ve been resting a lot, learning to draw in an app on my phone and debating whether I’ll maintain a vegie window box

For those who saw my previous posts, kitty is home and on a lot of medication that will mostly keep him comfortable as things slowly come to end. There's a clot on his heart they couldn't get to pass so he may lose his back legs but hopefully he's at peace before that happens.

Poor precious. Strength to you and a gentle passing for kitty when the time is right.

Should hear back by tomorrow about this job I interviewed for yesterday. And I have a Teams interview next week. I suppose this may be why I am feeling so damn social, having to put myself out there for corporations and present myself as a capable, intelligent person.... I just want to hang out with people and be my dense, silly, starchy self.

What do tonight though? 🙄

edit: have just had a small realisation: I like being social, but am afraid to be social because I hate taking up space - be it in a conversation, or physically. Wow. calls therapist

Hi DTers! I'm here from Reddit (same username). Good to see people from the OG DT here.

Kicking things off with a super random question, as I always do on the DT: I'd like to make oven baked tandoori chicken with basmati rice, but I'm not sure what to do for veggies. Chutney isn't really a replacement for veggies, but more of a dipping sauce, right? Can I put chutney over veggies like broccoli, cauli, carrots, etc? That probably doesn't sound right, but can anyone please recommend an easy Indian-style veggie side dish?

Hopefully it's something easy and basic, because I'm a lazy and terrible cook :-(

aussie.zone

Hello!!! Welcome!

Normally I might suggest a light dal with tomatoes, carrot, and cauliflower - the moisture would nicely round out the dryness of the chicken and rice while still being hearty and filling for a winters night. But that is perhaps a bit overkill.

Stir fried green beans and onions with a pinch of turmeric would go nicely. If you have any whole spices, a small amount of black mustard seed and cumin or fennel seed quickly tempered in the oil at the start really adds that Indian flavour without being overpowering. I add chilli flakes to the oil as well when I add the onions. Here is an example using powdered spices and no onion but it's a very versatile and simple dish - as the link suggests, use frozen sliced green beans to make it much faster.

Or, quite honestly, a plain raw salad - tomatoes, shredded carrot, lettuce - with a very light dressing lemon or vinaigrette would do the trick, lots of south Asians will have it that way at home - again for the freshness and moisture, and acidity from the tomatoes, but without the intense flavour of a chutney.

Thanks for the warm welcome!! All great suggestions too! I'll experiment with the beans but will mix the tumeric and cumin powder with a bit of oil and drizzle it over the onions and beans. Curry powder wouldn't really fit in here would it?

2

Yeah full on curry powder might be overkill. Keep it relatively light and let the beans shine through :)

1
aussie.zone

I'd go with some green beans or sauteed spinach. Chutney is a condiment so a generous dollop on the side of a plate is all you need.

5

Spinach and pumpkin curry is a simple Indian vegetable dish. Or maybe an eggplant curry?

Make a few Indian veg dishes to go on the side. Eg Saag. Welcome to the other place.

3
aussie.zone

vegetable medley!! broccolini chopped into half or thirds, spinach, cherry tomatoes, sesame seeds, and any sauces/oils. Put the broccolini into a pan first, then tomates, then spinach last. Add/remove other veggies as wanted (i like adding sliced capsicum) and it goes with most dishes. Sauces/oils can be changed up depending on the main dish it is being served with.

2
aussie.zone

Zucchini with this 👍👍👍 I like to add a little water in the frying pan to start it, pop the lid on, cook like that for maybe 5 mins until it cooks some of the veg a bit without burning the oil and stuff. Once water evaporates, add oil (or in my case, butter, which is way better), some garlic paste and chilli. Finish the cooking for another 5m. Beautiful

3

Wow... I randomly looked at the staff page of my old high school in the 80s. The biggest bully of a teacher is still there but is now the student well being coordinator.

14

Makes you wonder how much has changed over the years or if nothing has changed at all doesn’t it?

7

I sometimes wonder about this sort of thing. As a computer nerd in the 80's I did not have a good time in High School. On the other hand, I was an annoying, arrogant little snot. I would not want to be judged today on my 16-19 year-old self.

But though I was a pain, I was never (intentionally) abusive or hurtful to people. So, to what extent do we judge people 20 years later on their teenage personalities? Frankly, there are maybe half a dozen people in my whole year group I'd be interested in seeing again. But that doesn't on its own mean I expect all the rest to have ended up as horrible people.

Found my way to ol' r/melbourne for the first time in 5ever while I was chilling before my class began, and I came across a thread with the title about being afraid of the future and the apocalyptic feeling or whatever. And despite knowing what the comments were gonna be like, I still went and read them smh. I used to have genuine panic attacks when I was a teen about climate change, and while I don't try to avoid climate-relating talk or news because it's still important, I do try to avoid it when I have stuff I need to get done (for example class tonight) because I tend to get in a sort of..idk, stress mode haha.

Anyway, shouldn't have gone to reddit to start with, and shouldn't have read those thread comments lol hopefully venting this to the world's friendliest DT will help

So two teachers in East-Germany are basically leaving town because they called out so many students playing music with racist lyrics, drawing swastika's and using the Nazi salute with other students. And parents in this town wanted them to leave essentially and this is just wild. Especially since Germany did a lot of stuff to try and stamp out Nazi-ism after WWII.

It's so warm today I've switched off the heating and am flouncing around in a skirt and t shirt. Unbelievable. (But also hooray for an insulated house)

Tried to do a load of woollens and finally gave in at how gross the washing machine is. These guys are normally so uptight about cleanliness with their baby around and the wife having all kinds of chronic illnesses, but there's literal black mould impregnated all over the seal. The machine also used to deposit random bits of lint/mystery pieces onto the clothes, which has thankfully improved a bit after cleaning the filter and running it through a hot wash cycle with regular detergent a week ago.

Did a through spray + 5 min soak with mould remover and a very vigorous scrub, which has taken off the scum and the most superficial mould, but the bottom bit where all the water wells up is particularly difficult. I've just put it through a hot wash with special washing machine cleaner and after that's done I'll dry it out - if it's still gross I'm thinking tomorrow I'll try 1:4 dilution of white vinegar on paper towels to soak onto the seal for a couple hours, then another scrub and wash.

Open to any other tips from your personal experience of cleaning a front loader, and yes I realise it is probably too late to truly rid it of mould but something's better than nothing.

Also sorry for the long posts today. One gets a bit loopy in suburbia ...sometimes.

12
aussie.zone

You're doing all the right things. If these fail, then try doing the hottest possible cycle with a couple of dishwasher tablets thrown into the machine. This can damage the seal, but then so can mould. I would also check the filter again after and remove anything that cleaning the drum has shaken loose and flushed.
It might be time to broach the subject of getting the seal replaced with the owners. If the washer is under warranty that won't cost a cent but if not, then will need a repairman to call plus cost of parts.

6

I was waiting for Your Witchiness to chime in! Good point re checking the filter again, I shall do that as well as a wipe of the seal.

I'm not so fussed about my own clothes but the owners probably need to be gently told that they seriously need to consider seal replacement and that using hot water for washing doesn't mitigate the impacts of mould without a good dry. Knowing the husband he'll probably just buy an entire new washing machine, man has this obsession with buying new things rather than repairing

I didn't realise I had no short sleeve shirts that don't have graphic tees so I asked my boss if I could wear the graphic shirts and he said it's fine.

Whoo!

5
aussie.zone

Noice. I'm the same, no plain t shirts left. If I had a teams meeting I'd probably chuck on a pullover but otherwise I just rock the graphic tees.

3

Today was warm and I didn't realise until today that yeah I don't actually have any "nice" short sleeves so tomorrow if the weather permits it I might wear a graphic t-shirt.

2
aussie.zone

That's about all you can do. See if you can put another lot of washing cleaner in, put it on the hottest, longest setting possible and then open it and the drawer to air dry.

4
aussie.zone

It's currently into the second hour of the post-mould-cleaner cleaning at 60C (that's what the washing cleaner packet recommended). I'll leave it open tonight and if it's still gross tomorrow I'll do the vinegar with more elbow grease, then a second round with the washing cleaner.

5
aussie.zone

Nah I'd bump that temperature as high as it goes. My machine can reach 90°c that's because it has an internal heater so it's only connected to the cold water. If your friend's washing machine is connected to both hot and cold and doesn't have an internal heater then it'll only reach around 45°c ish or whatever the hot water is set to. Bump it up to Max on the machine. This machine sounds like it's neglected and they don't do monthly hygiene washes.

4
aussie.zone

Hm okay it goes up to 90C so I might try that for the next round.

Tbh I haven't given my own machine a hygiene wash for several months now despite it being a monthly reminder on my phone, but I'm inspired to go do a scrub and clean when I head back to mine on Saturday. Theirs is a lot dirtier because they do multiple loads a day with a reflux prone baby and very little time to look into such things (though the rest of the house is sparkling).

3
aussie.zone

Yeah I get it. Things do get away from you. Hygiene wash is not optional. It's a must if you want to keep your expensive equipment in tip top shape.

Also when it's finished go around the whole inside with a cloth and you'll find you can get a lot more shit off when it's still warm and steamy.

3

For real, it wasn't as big a deal with top loaders but I realise it's so much more important with front loaders. Good idea with wiping round using a cloth, I'll do that pronto with this round.

2
aussie.zone

I have switched off my heating, but am sitting in my heavist woolen jumper with a blanket on my lap. I was just thinking of taking Mr Woof for an afternoon walk in the sunshine in the hopes of warming up a bit (whatever the opposite of hooray is for an uninsulated house!)

I think I'm doing better than you on the washing machine front, I have just run a load and there is definitely no mould in there.

4

Boourns?! This is by far the best insulated house I've been in for a while. I'm positively toasty! But it's still great for a warm up walk outside, although the wind was a bit bitey.

The upshot of this sitcho is it's encouraged me to go thoroughly clean my own front loader when I drop in this weekend - I've spent nearly my entire life with top loaders only so I keep forgetting that front loaders need more maintenance.

My department at work is collapsing. Our budget was dramatically cut, and my direct team in Melbourne has dropped from 8 or 9, down to 3 (farewell drinks for one tonight), and they aren't being replaced. Other big changes coming... Interesting times. Mood and motivation is down in the team. It will continue because it must, and will be profitable in some form, but I don't know what that form will be at the moment, it's all still up in the air. My job is safe I believe, I'm too expensive to make redundant and can be moved elsewhere. I'm just kind of a fly on the wall of my first major shift like this in a business. Just venting a bit I guess.

11
aussie.zone

Can be rattling when most of a department is set loose. I ended up leaving my last long-term job (in 2019) when a new GM came in and fired half of our billing and customer service teams. Told her to suck my dick on the way out and now can't use her as a ref lol.

If you do end up leaving, because the culture and attitudes have changed, do not burn bridges 😅

8

Yeah. Good advice. Try not to burn the bridges on the way out unless you absolutely don’t need their reference or don’t think you’ll get work from them.

Also if networking is close, it’s better to keep your reputation.

4

I’m sorry to hear that. What will it mean for you in the future and for your team?

Losing more than half the people is devastating if the remaining needs to shoulder the burden of those who left.

6

I feel like this is happening quite a bit across the board. Companies have made cuts before the EOFY and either there will be no replacement or any roles not filled will be challenged and made difficult to approve. Other than people who may have got a promotion out of the latest restructure, everyone else is confused, pissed off, or both. Weird, uncertain, and crazy times.

SWEET. It turns out my previous health cover (for visa holders - everything Medicare covers plus hospital with extras added on) did cross over to my new local PHI product so I don't have insane waiting periods for most things after all!

I don't know how they decided it, because I'm pretty sure my previous extras cover did include physiotherapy and remedial massage (which now has a 2 month waiting period), but did not include psychology (which does not have a waiting period on my new cover).

Not complaining, I need that shit... I am aware extras is usually more of an Entertainment Book voucher type thing for health services but I would actually use all of them anyway; I did the sums and the savings were worth it.

And in other fantastic news, it only took nearly two weeks, but the cat has JUST! finally!!! figured out how to roll the treat ball HERSELF and get free treats without standing around sniffing it and helplessly looking at me.

I almost thought she was mentally slow. It's like she was scared to push the damn thing even though she knows full well there are highly desirable goodies inside and the holes are at maximum aperture so she doesn't have to roll it much for stuff to come out. What a relief

Day 1 of intermediate body shred 30 day challenge. Was definitely ready for this challenge and approached it in the manner suggested by the Hybrid Calisthenics guy, i.e adapting the exercises to what fits your fitness ability now. Especially important for me because while my foot is better it's still not 100%. Like there's this weird looking plank into pike exercise that I didn't like the look of and didn't trust myself to do without damaging something so I did other core exercises instead. Mr Peeler noticed that my figure is changing, and noticed the muscles in my back when he hugged me. It's only been 32 days of exercises! My posture has improved and I actually feel like I have a core now. In muscle terms, I just felt a nebulous void between my thighs and shoulders. I'm doing those back friendly exercises every day too, and will for life now because they've just been so beneficial.

Last night I had a crack at the exercises I linked yesterday and found that even after feeling knackered after a day's work, cooking dinner and doing laundry etc.,they were totally doable. So maybe I've got a short evening routine I can do as well, which means I'll be doing the recommended 30 minutes of exercise per day for the first time! Woo! Thanks for listening to my ramblings, and have a vitamin D-lightful day!

Good work. I've been taking it a bit easy on my weightlifting while I wait for some new shoes that should give me a bit more stability. They are on board to arrive today so I can go back to increasing the weights again. I'm noticing some nice body changes too - I'm maintaining the same weight, but am losing some size still, especially around the tummy - I actually have a waist that goes in instead of out! 🤣

My basic plan for now is to keep focusing on the weightlifting for a bit while maintaining my weight, then switch to maintaining the weightlifting level while I focus on diet and losing another 5kg, then go back to slowly increasing weightlifting levels and incorporating some HIT style cardio. Then repeat with an alternating diet/exercise focus, incorporating flexibiity/balance exercised, then longer cardio. By which stage I should be at a stage to just focus on maintaining both weight and fitness levels as a permanent thing.

It's been working well so far, I think breaking it down into achievable chunks has definitely been the right call. Losing 35kg and increasing fitness from couch-based slob is a massive undertaking, and it felt far too daunting to start when I looked at the whole thing. But 5kg? Seems achievable.

5
aussie.zone

I hear you on the whole breaking it into chunks thing. It's why I chose to start with one 10ish minute workout per day. Otherwise I wouldn't have succeeded in getting this far. I really need to lose weight but I've focused on the basic goal of simply getting into a doable and enjoyable routine first. Did your shoes arrive?

2

The shoes arrived. They are good but a touch small, so I'm still deciding if it's bad enough to return them for a larger size or just keep them.

Pizza is in the oven. I originally decided not to do pizza because I couldn't be bothered making the base, but the food cupboard came through with a couple of fresh bases from Baker's Delight, so I have one pizza in the oven now & another base in the freezer. There were also a couple of tomatoes in the cupboard, so I have some tomato in my lunch salad for work, and made some tomato/onion/capsicum/basil mix to have with eggs for one of my breakfasts - plus added a few small slices to the pizza. I've been out of tomato for weeks so it was very welcome.

I smoked a joint with Peaches many moons ago. She was fun. I was at her show very early to make sure we saw Cobra Killer. She just came up sat with my friend and I and asked if we had any weed. I had a couple of joints. It was the kind of venue where I was known and no one cared about weed and smoking wasn't banned then anyway. Also, they were super artist friendly. Was at the zoo in Brisbane. She didn't say much but her mate had a very poindexter outfit on and was really nice and chatty. She mainly just sat there woman spreading in her little hot pants. I love her. She was thankful and courteous in an I'm a "rock star ok" kind of way. She was definitely still very underground then though.

She performed solo and with Mignon, just them, her mc505 beatmachine and some long dildos, shake your dicks, shake your tits. No one including me knew who she was but a bunch of my mates had tickets, she blew us completely away.

Thanks for reminding of such a great memory. The whole show was incredible, I think Cornelious was headlining but I'm not sure. That may have been another year. The only big day out sideshows allowed were engineered by Regurgitator's manager Paul Curtis. He's a great person. Those shows were usually better than the actual big day out and were always artists he'd hand picked to tour down the east coast with the big day out. They were kind of shows rarely staged in Brisbane at the time and were a must see for a load of us.

Holy shit!! Holy shit shit! So jealous!! 😱😱😱 that would have been epic and amazing!! My dream is to sit in Peaches presence and smoke a phat j.

I found a really good way to think of fat/weight control.

Everyday there are three possible outcomes. We get fatter, we stay the same, we get thinner. Mark each day on the calendar. The trick is to slowly move from "get fatter" to "stay the same", then from "stay the same" to "get thinner". Then it's stay the same thereafter.

It probably means No Junkfood. Diet. Stay on diet.

Look, I'll be brutally honest. If you have excess fat, it will scream at you to feed it. You need to simply not listen to it. Skip the rice with dinner. Just have fruit and yoghurt for breakfast. Don't eat until you're full. Stay active, do aerobics. It will get pretty bad after a week or so, but once you start to starve the fat off, you can start noticeably losing fat every day.

6
aussie.zone

I lost ~30kgs (went from 100kgs to hovering around 70kgs) because I got poor, couldn't afford takeaway, and had to start living super frugal. Starved the fat right off. I don't have a car, so I forced myself to walk around for good deals, markets, etc. It does get easier, but the first few weeks of reducing food intake was pretty brutal.

I look good now tho (i think 😬😬😬) so win-win haha

I am sad I went down a bra size or two, bc I liked my titties, but now I can walk around without a bra, so again, win-win lol

I have gone down two bra sizes the past 2 months and my clothes one size . I just gotta keep eating properly, having many more good food days than bad

2
aussie.zone

It's a big confidence boost when you realise the clothes are now too big. I'm glad you are seeing results! Losing weight (fat) can be difficult; I hope you feel good and accomplished about it!! <3 <3 you ought to!

2

also, many kudos on losing 30k, a lot of people would have just bought really cheap food that is unhealthy, it took skill and knowledge and determination to eat cheap and healthy 🤗

2

It doesn't help Melbourne is such a foodie city.

( when did that happen, when did people think about eating food more than personally playing sports )

Looks neat. Tell me, how many games on Steam can you play with outdated specs and integrated graphics only....?

Loving early starts and finishes and already clocking up nearly 6.5ks of walking just tramming into the cbd for work and back and working. Was hard work today and as a few in the company have said, there's no need to go to a gym as work is a workout. Training and money is pretty sweet and all my co-workers are great, my colleague today I'd never worked with and asked me my pronouns which is always a good sign.

On the way home I scored a proper oodie of the baby unicorn print variety and black stovepipe dungarees from the salvos. The oodie is warm, oversized soft and is baby blue, powder pink and white so you know, basically a gay / trans pride oodie as far as I'm concerned. It's nice to find clothes I know I'm going to basically live in for reasonable prices. Still undecided about whether salvos are cool or not, but their staff are at least.

Absolutely gorgeous day out there too, so I'll smash my ks up to 11 with a nice stroll around this lovely neck of the south of the rivers woods. Also already been able to share some totally un-asked for kindness through my volunteer work as well, so today's about as wholesome as I can hope for.

Thx for reading and love to you all my little dt family.

aussie.zone

My Sister in Queer, the salvos are very bad. The workers are fine, but I would reccomend almost any other Op Shop over the salvos; they're anti-LGBTQIA+.

Getting a blue, pink, white oodie is A+! Fantastic score!! I am so pleased your new job is treating you with respect! Keep being your authentic self, bc you are a strong independent woman!

The salvos and brotherhood are also very expensive. Anything that is not rags is sold as designer vintage for over $20. Savers might be an ersatz charity but at least they are cheap and have better quality.

Sad you never felt comfortable. I assure you if you were a part of my irl friend circle you would be loved and respected for who you are.

5

I honestly don't fit in all that well in the queer or trans communities either. But at least I know I'll be safe as long as it's not in a bar full of gay men. Being neurodiverse trans and lesbian is a bit niche. Gotta pick the right places. I have found some. Bars are off limits anyway for the time being. Going to look into the local straight edge scene if I can.

Thanks for your kind words. I know there's plenty of somewhat "normal" people who don't give a shit about heritage or cultural differences. I can count on one hand the people who gushed with offers of support when I came out as trans who have kept in touch. Most of my friends just treat me exactly as they always did though which is much better than pretending to want to know every facet of transition.

Edit: I should that add that I accept things aren't perfect and everyone faces the same problems regardless of whether they were born with things they can be marginalised for or not.

Damn, didn't get to finish up what was I supposed to do at work though the job was a little bigger than I thought in the end.

Hopefully can finish it up tomorrow.

Nearly time to wrap up the day and then off grocery shopping I go.

Herring is on my mind.

Herring, I've got you on my mind, fish, you won't ever know

I won't take no from you this time

Thanks to you, Herring is now on my mind as well! I've gone off bread for a bit but I think I'll try it with some pasta tonight as I'm a bit tired of this defrosted curry I've been having 4 days in a row.

All sold out when I went there to check.

Where to get a stack of pancakes piled high with Banna and berries and whatnot? Somewhere in the city between 8 and 10 this mroning would be perfect

[edit] ooo pancake Parlour is open already?! I thought they didn't open until 11 or something. Still open to suggestions though

The NatWest / Coutts / Farrage affair is going to be an interesting case study in dealing with trolls.

If the CEO of NatWest simply said No Comment, and let their dealings descend into to GB News dribble, she would still be in her job.

Instead she tried to defend her company, and broke privacy laws in the process, by saying Farrage dropped below their deposit threshold for having an account there. It's kind of like those people that leak military secrets to win a world of tanks forum battle.

I tried getting the octopus Bacon helpfully provided to do my TAFE assignment for me, but it has refused (I think it's in the spare room right now trying to open a jar of peanut butter instead).

I sat down to do it myself and realised I really don't want to do it either. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but it's all just far too tedius. So I've withdrawn from the units I was in, and will probably withdraw from the course all together. Now I can just do the interesting uni stuff and will have some more free time.

So I get the yelling at clouds thing and there’s nothing more classic than redditor complaining about reddit on reddit.

There’s no way you could know this but that’s exactly the kind of user I target when I champion Lemmy and our awesome community here.

Here you have a person who may or may not post often but took the time to write about the degradation (real or perceived) of r/Melbourne. They seem to care about some semblance of quality for an online community. Which we have here.

prime candidate to drop a line to.

Now. If and when they come poking around the DT here, what comments might they see.?

I like you and you ad value here so please don’t take as a personal attack just an observation.

6
aussie.zone

Oh oh! I know! ✋ They'll see me having a giggle about it! He seems like a cool dude from the comments they made on the post, and he does have a point. But really, there is a lot going on in Melbs but not every Melbournian is on reddit, nor will they post about the events. So yeah, r/melbourne is going to be full of "what was that bang", "helicopter above my house", "look at this weird bug/amphibian I saw", which yeah, isn't really melbourne but it also kind of is iconically melbourne

I hope more users come over, and I will try my best to be a welcoming user. 🤗

3
aussie.zone

Personally, I miss the grade school humour and larrikin shitposting. There’s none of that in this instance and it feels weird without it.

2
aus.social

@useless_modern_god @StudChud I was one of those who only ever popped into r/melbourne when there was a specific local reason to. A bit like Whirlpool forums but not for tech, just for local Melbourne-specific stuff.

I like the integration of these more general conversations about general Life Stuff here, and feel like there's a lot more that I am likely to comment on if a question is one I can answer / have some experience with.

I like the !Melbourne vibe and because it's in my main Fediverse feed, I see content that I just wouldn't have gone to r/melbourne for.

3
aussie.zone

Yeah same. I’ve only been on the DT for a couple of years now and love the fact many people moved to Lemmy. Contributing content doesn’t feel as daunting here.

Do you mainly post on mastodon?

3

@useless_modern_god yup... I used to be very active on Reddit between 2017-2019, experimented briefly with Mastodon in 2018, but moved here pretty permanently when Space Karen bought Twitter last year. it's been fascinating watching the new waves each time he does a new idiotic thing, and the #Rexxit wave was even more exciting as it brought a different crowd and boosted the #Threadiverse, which is really good for the Fediverse ecosystem. I'm now experimenting with #firefish but am not sold yet, though the UI is very slick.

2

The twitter type platforms must be receiving heaps of new people lately. I’m not really seeing that first hand because mainly post here and Kbin. Also just got an invite to Tildes recently so that keeps me busy.

What does firefish do that Mastodon doesn’t?

I think some people just have an old mindset. Not open to fun or play or new experience. Two people with a fun, playful and adventurous mindset will help keep each other young at heart. but sadly the body doesn't follow

::: spoiler TW I suppose I am not entirely sure why or how I survived being 7, or 12, 13, 15, 16 or 18 to 26, to be completely honest. If it wasn't for a random night in Oct 2018, I wouldn't be here. Probably explains why I am an actual fucking weirdo who cannot keep friends hahah ugh

If it wasn't for mein liebe giving me the confidence and freedom to discover who I am. Two people and one friend can make all the difference between a headstone and a beer, ranting on the PC lol. ::: \

I have just always loved that quote from Through The Looking Glass, it's quite dark yet humourous haha

Does anyone want to go to Brunswick Artist's Bar tomorrow night for NIGHT OF POWER II?

DJ Thin Lindsay will be doing power ballads all night, entry is free.

I have realised that with the new aircon being installed on Tuesday I won't need my dehumidifiers any more, and I can get rid of a couple of electric heaters too. Extra floor space! I really should have sorted this out much sooner. I am a terrible property manager.

4
aus.social

@RustyRaven @bot001 why wouldn't you need a dehumidifier? Is there a type of RCAC which doesn't dry the air? 🤔

I definitely notice the difference if I have mine on overnight and don't use the dehumidifier, which I only do if the temperature outside is going to be extra low, but I live at 500m so that is relatively often in winter...

2
aus.social

@RustyRaven @bot001 Scrap this reply. I was thinking *Humidifier*, not DEhumidifier, my brain not work. If you are using gas currently yeah you'd need a dehumidifier with that, but beware, while not needing a dehumidifier, you may want a cool mist humidifier in your future!

4
aussie.zone

The excess humidity is mostly from drying clothes inside and cooking, not heating (I don't have gas, I have "temporary" portable electric heaters after the ducted heating stopped working). Before the dehumidifiers I often had so much condensation build up I had water running down the walls and windows - there would be puddles on the windowsills. So I'll see how it goes, but the house seems to be fairly self-humidifying for the most part!

2

Lol so there's a weird situation going on in my fridge. There's a basin of red and yellow capsicums swimming in water because I don't really know what to do with them. I've had them for a couple weeks but they feel firm but I've got this fear that I don't know what I'll find if I slice them open.

It'd be really fascinating to visit NK, but I'd be too scared that they'd take me to work in a labour camp.

Oops, apparently managed to post this as a comment reply instead of a new post.

Today's random thing stuck in my head: The song One Final Effort from Halo 3. Like it or hate it, I think Halo 3 might've been one of the biggest moments in gaming history. The excitement seemed to extend beyond just the gamers, and for a moment we were all united. That and I guess Pokemon Go. Shame we dont have more moments like that these days.

2

Gaming seems to be divided these days. Market saturation perhaps? Too many games and too many platforms maybe?

Lots of differing tastes right for a single game to have such a unifying effect I think.
