Lmao, they'll probably beat the EA comment for the record of the most downvoted post/comment, if Reddit doesn't rig the score.

19
lemmy.one

Followed by reddit announcing that they're removing the downvote button because it's "used for harrassment."

10

"We're locking this post because we're being brigaded by trolls"

5

They've had fake accounts to try and make the website look busier and they've edited other people's comments. Is there anything else equally immoral they've done that I don't know about?

Or he will just answer a few comments way down the page that don't ask anything difficult and ignore the top 20.

He’ll just manipulate the votes like he’s edited user’s comments in the past.

10

Are the fast enough? I mean, they could try deleting them but editing takes time

2

Spez: It's all about the user experience. Totally not for profit.

10

Ok but what I crave are all the horrible puns and recycled insults. It will be like the grand finale fireworks display of reddit.

Yep. Fuck him and reddit. I hope they realise their mistake and also realise it's too late and they've fucked up.

It is absolutely NOT too late for the vast majority of users. That's why I want reddit to go through with their plan and dig their own grave. Sick and tired of corporate bullshit to be honest.

5

I agree with this. And as much as I'd like to say I'd stick to lemming, I'm pretty sure I am one of the plebs that'd go right back the moment they reverse their decision

4
beehaw.org

Could this become the most downvoted post of all time I wonder. Spez is not exactly Mr Popular at the moment.

27

I'm sure it will, if the score doesn't get rigged.

2

it would be ironic if r/DownvotedToOblivion was going dark, but they're not...

This whole drama is getting tiresome. I’ll miss reddit but I just don’t have the emotional investment to do anything other than quit the site if they go through with the changes and hope others follow suit. I hope that lemmy proves to be a viable alternative

I’ve already quit the site. Even if they backpedal, it seems unlikely because of any desire or respect for the users and only because of current PR pressure. I’ve experienced it before where some hostile decision is walked back until the uproar dies down, and they try again. And again until the protest fatigue sets in.

I’m don't trust Reddit and have chosen to move on. Whether they stick around or not matters not to me. I’ve moved on and watch with an eye for curiosity and awareness. But no more emotional investment.

This. Decisions like this are not made on a whim. They go through multiple stages, meetings, financial and technical analyses, reviews, lawyers … many, many desks and people who sign off on the plan. They really want this.

2

Yeah, I for sure will spend more time here, it's just that some niche places I am probably will never move off of reddit, and it's either that or nothing, once old goes away though, I don't think I will be able to use the site any more.

The only thing I used reddit for was to lurk, see photos, upvote and read some comments or posts. I was barely active during this couple of years with a new account, after deleting an old one. Sometimes I saw it, and still see it, difficult for me to be active because of karma, some kind of polarization or toxicity, even on safe subreddits.

The good thing is that here, karma is non existent. Yes, you can upvote or downvote posts and comments, but those votes don't go to you as karma, so you're not affected. And that really helps neurodivergent people, as it's my case too (rejection sensitive dysphoria, I think it's called, one comorbidity of ADHD).

So, yes, fuck Reddit, and I'll stay here as long as it lasts.

Yeah same, all my subs except my local ones were going down hill the past few years. I'm hopeful the post quality here remains high and we don't get the same few tired predictable comments under post.

I'll miss some communities which are not here yet. I thought about creating a couple of them and start posting some original content, but I passed.

Do it! Could meet some new likeminded people in these communities.

My intention was to create 2westerneurope4u, but being me from a single European country doesn't help, unless I clone myself 10 times. Besides, without flairs, half of the fun is missing. Same thing with 2balkan4you, but I'm not Balkaner, I'm w*stoid.

1

Yeah I bet this is just going to be an attempt at ass covering and blaming 3rd party devs for whatever. In any case it's almost guaranteed to be a huge clusterfuck for reddit with whatever tone deaf replies and talking points spez regurgitates.

8

I hope that nobody asks nothing. That will be the best protest that we can do.

a BS PR spin with lots of vague answers that imply he's doing what's best for the reddit community. that's all it can be. given his history, what else could someone expect? even if he were to roll back all the expected API changes so that everyone could still continue to use reddit as we have been, i'm out. i want nothing to do with that site. it's been getting worse for quite some time, and this was the motivation i needed to leave. plus, not that i found kbin and lemmy, i have no need for that site. i purged my accounts, so that even my accounts don't matter anymore.

9

yeah they'll probably spin it how it's good for the health of the site and better for end users, blah blah blah..

What does he think he's going to solve with this AMA? The Reddit community has proven time and time again that they can smell bullshit a mile away, and have buried most admin posts with downvotes.

Why walk directly into a shitshow like this?
