I’m not religious but I looked up these passages to show how hypocritical they are:

Matthew 25:35 - “For I was a stranger and you welcomed me.”

Romans 12:13 - “Share with God’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.”

Deuteronomy 10:18-19 - “Treat foreigners and sojourners with empathy and understanding, as they are vulnerable and in need.”

“Yeah but the Bible was talking about Christians, not Haitians and Mexicans”

-evangelicals, probably

people don't get their morality from religious texts, they use religious texts to justify and enforce their morality.

So, religious cunts.

People who believe in the actual ideals of America are not split on this.

America is a nation of immigrants.

So, religious cunts.

That's future dictators leaders of America tyvm! Get it right or get in the iron maiden!

:(

And the fascist apartheid regime committing genocide, invading neighboring countries, and killing US citizens as well as UN peacekeepers with impunity.

This American is decidedly not split on the issue and owns heavy duty bolt cutters

39

We are also split on using the military against Trumps enemies. There are a lot of people in this country who have lost their way.

Definitely. And after that, I'm sure Jesus would have picked up hammer and nails to finish that wall to keep all those pesky immigrants out.

1

Jesus would have used the nails out of his own hands to build a wall around his chosen country

The only people that belong in such camps are the ones who want to put others there.

22

Look, there is a right way to go about this and a reich way.

(Insane that this is where the us is today)

"...until it's convenient to advance my own agenda, of course."

I swear these fake Christians are the same people who will judge people for swearing and then have no problem telling someone on record they want to put brown people in concentration camps. If there is a God I hope he judges them accordingly.

11

It's also the same people who claim that moral integrity is the end-all-be-all in leadership while having no problem supporting a person for the ultimate leadership position whose views on women include "grab'em by the pussy." The moral superiority is pretty much gone.

Let's make a poll about support for the slitting of puppy throats and see where we end up. Would hate to step on somebody else's political opinion on the subject.

I don't doubt these statistics. But there are also plenty of progressive Christians who don't think like this. I personally work with a whole slew of 'em

Definitely. There's a difference between evangelical Christians and progressive Christians. Evangelicals consider themselves "born again" and are usually very conservative and staunchly Republican and are usually Trump supporters. Those are the ones mentioned here.

Yep I was just trying to vocalize the broader point about non-evangelical progressive Christians because there seems to be an awful lot of anti-christian rhetoric on Lemmy and many users likely wouldn't recognize that nuance.
